Joseph gripped Yara’s jaw, but she had no strength whatsoever to resist him. He could basically do whatever he wanted to her.

Yara wanted to stubbornly say that she didn’t need Joseph to treat her, but she knew Joseph was the real deal when it came to medicine. The fact that a few simple needles had completely immobilized her was proof enough.

She wanted to live. Even a miserable life was better than being a cripple!

She asked, “What do you want?”

Joseph said, “After everything you’ve done to me, killing you right now wouldn’t even begin to make up for it.”

He grabbed her wrist to feel her pulse. “I didn’t expect you to still be a virgin. Is your fiance impotent or something?”

“Don’t spout nonsense. Henry just doesn’t want to hurt me! Joseph, tell me what you want. I can give you money.”

Yara’s face flushed. She told herself that it wasn’t like she and Henry hadn’t fooled around. Henry simply held back, partly because of her condition. Otherwise, they would have gone all the way a long time ago.

Joseph gave a wicked grin. “Money? How much is your life worth?”

Yara fell silent. If she offered too little, Joseph would mock her for having a life worth next to nothing. If she named too large a figure, she wouldn’t be able to come up with it.

“I want you to experience exactly what you put my wife through so that you’ll become the same kind of woman she is. That is my condition for fixing your legs.” 1

Yara shuddered as a sudden chill washed over her. She shook her head. “Joseph, can you please name a different condition?”

“What’s wrong? You made my wife cheat and have Skylar’s children, but you can’t cheat and have my child? Are you somehow more precious than my wife?

“You managed to hide it from me, so why can’t you hide it from your fiance out there?”

“Joseph, y-you’re doing this just to get back at me. You’re so cruel!”

“Damn right I’m getting back at you. What, did you expect me to be grateful? You two lied to me for nearly 20 years. Do you have any idea how much damage you caused? The endless psychological torture?

“You ruined my entire life. Did you honestly think I’d just turn the other cheek, smile, and let it go? Keep \ dreaming!”

Enraged, Joseph squeezed Yara’s jaw hard. Then he pulled a syringe and a glass ampoule from his pocket. He snapped the neck of the ampoule, drew the liquid into the syringe, and injected it straight into Yara.

“Joseph, w-what did you just inject me with?”

Yara was terrified. The way Joseph meticulously handled the broken pieces of the ampoule made her even more convinced that whatever was inside it had to be something dangerous.

“A slow-acting poison. I’ll make you pay a hundredfold for all the lies and abuse I’ve suffered for the past ten to twenty years. I’m going to make sure you die a miserable death!”

Joseph reveled in the sheer panic in Yara’s eyes. In reality, the ampoule had only contained saline solution. But in

situation like this, he could have told her anything, and she’d believe it.

Joseph pulled out a second ampoule. “This is the antidote. You only get it if you do exactly what I say.”.

“What do you want me to do?”

“You’re going to marry your fiance, but you can’t sleep with him. Once you get pregnant with my child, I’ll give you half the antidote. Then, after you give birth to my child, I’ll give you the other half.”

“I can’t sleep with Henry, but then I’m supposed to get pregnant? A-Are you trying to make me lose all my dignity?”

“Once I fix your legs, do you really think you’ll still want Henry? You’ve been great at keeping things under wraps/ all these years, haven’t you? Then keep doing what you’re good at and just keep him in the dark!”
