Cora didn’t find out that Joseph had shown up at the sanatorium until the following afternoon. She was bringing Bernard a plate of fruit when she noticed that he actually had an appetite and seemed much more energetic than before.

When she asked what had happened, Bernard told her that Joseph had come to treat him the previous night.
