Chapter 728
Yara thought she had hidden it well, but everything was within Joseph’s calculations.
When it came down to the crucial moment, however, she still found an excuse to stop before things went any further. Instead, she wanted to call Beth in.
What a shameless woman. What her body showed and what she was thinking could be two completely different things. Cora was exactly the same. Were all women natural-born liars?
Joseph understood that, given Yara’s current state of mind, she might actually be more eager to give herself to the real Joseph rather than to Henry.
He leaned against the headboard and asked Yara, “There’s still something I can’t figure out. Why would Joseph treat you? Has he forgiven you?”
How could he possibly have forgiven her? He poisoned her, and now he wanted her to bear his children. But Yara couldn’t tell Henry any of that.
She replied, “Money. He needs money. Why do you think Cora was able to keep him under her thumb for so long? Why could she make him stay home and play househusband? It’s because Cora was the one making the money. He couldn’t earn enough, so he had no choice but to submit to her.
“I have money, so he’ll bow his head for money. He may be a skilled doctor, but even a skilled doctor needs a wealthy patron like me. Don’t you think so?”
Joseph frowned. “I’m really upset that you’re giving him your money. I want to kill him.”
Yara shook her head. “Don’t. My legs haven’t recovered yet. You can’t possibly sacrifice me over a little money and leave me crippled, or even get me killed.”
She was clearly displeased.
Joseph said, “Of course I wouldn’t do that. But your money didn’t fall from the sky. Once we give it away, it’s gone.”
Joseph suddenly thought of something. He leaned close to Yara’s ear and whispered to her.
Yara was shocked. “You actually have the guts to target Owen?”
Joseph had suggested taking Owen’s money.
The reason was simple. Owen currently controlled the majority of the Zahn family’s wealth. If they could take that money, they would effectively be taking decades of the Zahn family’s accumulated fortune.
Whether they eventually inherited the Zahn family or broke away and established their own faction, they would instantly become one of the most powerful forces in Jenton.
Joseph asked, “Are you scared?”
Yara was incredulous. “Obviously! That’s Owen we’re talking about. Do you know how many people in the family are absolutely devoted to him? If the family finds out that we harbor traitorous intentions, they wouldn’t even need to lift a finger. Just a few words from them, and we’d die.”

Joseph said, “You were bold enough to give Joseph money, but now you’re so afraid of everything. Do you think you can accomplish anything with an attitude like yours? Dream on.”
Joseph got out of bed and left.
Yara wanted to stop him, but she was also afraid that he might do something reckless if she tried to keep him here.
So she secretly breathed a sigh of relief. But once she was alone, she suddenly felt an emptiness inside that she couldn’t explain.
As she watched Henry leave, she used a method that only she and Joseph knew about to send him a message. She asked him what he was doing.
She missed him.
After sending it, she knew Joseph probably wouldn’t reply. And yet she still found herself feeling inexplicably nervous as she waited for a response.
That kind of feeling was addictive, and the aftereffects hit hard.
That afternoon, Joseph followed the medical sect’s established procedures and prepared the medication that Harry’s mistress wanted, allowing her to take it back to Emerald Mountain.
