Cora forced herself to remain calm, trying to determine what Joseph had actually learned and how much he

knew.

Joseph said, “I don’t care who they are. Anyone who enjoyed having their way with my wife back then will suffer at my hands, both now and in the future. I’m just a petty, ordinary man. I’m narrow-minded. I can’t bring myself to hand my own wife over to other men and pretend I’m fine with it.”

Cora frowned. “Don’t get so obsessed with this. I never did anything to betray you.”

Joseph scoffed. “Cora, why are you still denying reality? You say you never betrayed me? Then where did your daughters come from?”

Cora replied, “I had another paternity test done. Natalie and the others aren’t Skylar’s children. They have absolutely nothing to do with Skylar. Come home, and I’ll show you the results.”

Joseph laughed. “Last year, you said paternity tests were not scientifically reliable. Why do you suddenly believe them now? If I were you, I’d refuse to believe them at all.”

Cora said, “I just want you to believe that I never betrayed you. The children are yours…”

Joseph scoffed. “Don’t bring this up again. All you’re doing is making me despise you and feel sick.”

After cutting her off, Joseph continued, “The Dixon family sent their risk-control team here to investigate me and kill me. What did you do?”

Cora fell silent.

If she said she had done nothing, then she would be admitting that she’d simply sat back and been willing to watch Joseph get killed. Wouldn’t that make her just as guilty?

But if she said she’d done something, then the problem was that she hadn’t actually done anything. At least, she never got the chance. After all, the Dixon family wouldn’t have informed her of their plans beforehand.

Cora simply said, “I didn’t know anything about what the Dixon family was planning. I’ve been busy dealing with the Lowell Group and searching for my mother. Don’t worry, honey. I won’t let anyone hurt you.”

Joseph chuckled coldly. “You’re just waiting for someone to kill me. That way, no one will ever come after you for cheating on me and betraying me. You will finally be able to sleep peacefully at night.”

Cora panicked. “I didn’t…”

Joseph cut her off. “Just stop causing trouble for Katie.”

Joseph hung up. He knew that Cora would keep going to Katie anyway. For the sake of her own interests, Cora didn’t mind making other people miserable. In her mind, other people were simply supposed to serve her.

After thinking it over, Joseph went to the home of the chief financial officer of the Hart Group.

He demanded that the CFO hand over the company’s accounts so he could transfer the group’s money. He knew the CFO would refuse because the man was one of Cora’s most trusted subordinates. Joseph simply wanted Cora to understand that he was perfectly capable of causing trouble for her too.
