Bernard lowered his voice. “Do you think Joseph could have crossed the line with your mother?”

Cora frowned. “There isn’t any evidence that he killed anyone or set those fires, so don’t make reckless accusations.”

She knew Bernard was biased against Joseph, so she didn’t argue any further.

Bernard later met Helen privately and confronted her. In the end, Helen gave him an earful.
