A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 736

Chapter 736

Harry was a tuember of the medical sect. Like Jenna, he had been adopted from elsewhere by an elder of the medical sect. After discovering his innate talent for medicine, the Zahn family bestowed their name upon him.

His wife, however, was a pure-blooded descendant of the Zahn family. She was closely related to Owen.

Clara went straight to the point. “Henry, give me a medical certificate stating that Harry was beaten up.”

Joseph laughed helplessly. “Come on, you’re basically asking me to walk straight into a minefield. When Harry was brought in, the police already had their own doctor examine him. They’ve concluded that he fell on his own.

“I checked the scene myself. It was a private room, and surveillance cameras covered the common areas as well as the entrance. No one else entered the room. If I want to overturn their conclusion, I’d have to do a mountain of work. That’s beyond what I’m capable of.”

She frowned. “Harry has always treated you well. Won’t you do him this small favor?”

Joseph smiled. “Don’t put it that way. I’ve already given him more than you realize. I gave up my overseas training slot and handed it to Joel. At the hospital, I’d turn a blind eye whenever Harry took something he wanted or got handsy with some of the young nurses.

“I never asked you people to repay me, but you should at least not ask me to put myself at risk.”

Joseph knew exactly what the old woman was trying to do. She wanted to shift the blame away from Harry.

As long as Harry’s reputation remained intact, they could preserve his influence and resources. Then, all they needed to do was put forward a new figurehead, and they could continue enjoying the privileges they had before.

As long as they refused to fall or step aside, how was Joseph supposed to get his turn? He wasn’t some saint. He intended to take over the medical sect and eventually tear down the Zahn family itself.

Still, Joseph had no reason to offend her outright. “How about this? If the medical sect and Mr. Zahn Senior jointly make the decision and give me specific instructions, I’ll carry them out. If you don’t have that, then go back and discuss it with Mr. Zahn Senior and the others.”

She frowned. “Isn’t all the medical sect’s work outside Emerald Mountain under your control now? Just issue a certificate for me. I’ll take it to the police and explain the situation to them. What’s so difficult about that?”

Joseph shook his head. “Everything I do is for the medical sect and Mr. Zahn Senior. After all, they were the ones who gave me everything I have. The only orders I’ll follow are theirs.

“When something involves the reputation of the medical sect and Mr. Zahn Senior, I have to be even more careful. These are the principles I follow.”

Right in front of her, Joseph called the leader of the medical sect, who was currently overseas. He was immediately reprimanded for waking the man from his sleep, and the request was rejected outright.

Joseph looked at the old woman and shrugged helplessly.

She was furious. Unable to convince Joseph, she decided to look for Yara and have her persuade him instead.

She called Yara, but no one answered. So she went looking for Yara personally.

At that very moment, Yara was on the phone with Jenna.

Jenna had called Yara from overseas and asked immediately, “Yara, is it true that you and Henry are breaking off your engagement?”

Yara frowned. “How did that reach you?”

Jenna replied, “How could something this important not spread? Even ignoring your position, Henry’s holding an important position now, too. Breaking off your engagement is technically a matter between the two of you, but this concerns the medical sect as well.

“I’m not asking why. I just want to know if it’s true.”

Yara’s expression darkened. “Why does that matter?”

Jenna said, “If it’s false, then forget I called. You two can just keep being together. But if it’s true, then Henry is a free man. I’ll come back and pursue him, maybe even marry him. You stole him from me in the first place. If you don’t want him anymore, give him back.
