Chapter 95
At home, Cora finished reviewing the prescription Fiona had shared. It was an ordinary medical prescription with no hidden message.
Still, it stirred up memories from years ago. Ever since her first period, Cora had been plagued by debilitating menstrual cramps each month-an agonizing routine that only changed after Joseph entered her life.
Once they were married, those painful episodes completely vanished, thanks to Joseph’s treatment.
“Fiona, I have no idea you had menstrual cramps.”
“When I was a child, I fell into a river in winter. I caught a cold. Since then, I’ve been suffering in pain for a few days each month. I’ve never told anyone about it. I definitely never mentioned it to Joseph. Yet when he took my pulse, he knew everything. I can’t even wrap my head around it.”
Fiona had suspected Joseph of running a background check on her. But even if he had, how could he possibly look into something as private as menstrual cramps?
“Joe has been practicing medicine for many years. It’s not surprising that he has some real skills. When you deal with him in the future, be more careful. Don’t let him fool you. Also, assess Joe’s capabilities again, especially his medical skills.”
“Okay.” Fiona agreed there was a need to reevaluate Joseph. She didn’t mention her breast condition. Instead, they discussed how to reduce the fallout from Natalie’s incident.
Cora sent Fiona away when Frank called.
“It’s pretty much confirmed, Cora. What a shame. If only Nat were my daughter.”
“What are you talking about? Who knows how many children you have with your wife and mistress? Are you still not satisfied? Nat was misled into doing something so humiliating. She’s still just a child, so stop teasing her about it.”
“I’m not teasing Nat. I genuinely like her. In a way, I watched Nat grow up. She’s smart and way better than my useless kids. I’ve told my wife more than once that if she could bear me a child as brilliant as Nat, I’d gladly trade ten years of my life for it.”
“I think Nat acted like a total idiot this time. I just hope you didn’t suffer any losses because of her recklessness. I’ll personally treat you to dinner sometime soon to make amends on her behalf.”
