A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy's Woman novel Chapter 22

Chapter 22

The following day, Bethany slung her bag over her shoulder and drove her new car to work.

William got out of his car when she parked hers and noticed she was driving a BMW X3. He didn’t think it was anything fancy.

In a split second, he lost all interest in Bethany.

He still remembered how Diana had once personally brought a young woman to the companytruly a princess, radiating wealth from head to toe. Bethany, by contrast, fell far short.

Bethany had no idea what was on William’s mind.

As a director, she was assigned a personal secretary. Bethany smiled at her secretary, Allison Larson. Please inform everyone in the department that there will be a meeting at 2:00 pm, Allison. Thank you. Also, add me to the work group chat if there is one.

Allison was a little taken aback. Of course, Ms. Porter. Don’t mention it.

This should have been William’s job. However, it was obvious that he saw Bethany as a rival and had no intention of helping

her.

Unbeknownst to her, William had already created a small group chat. He texted, Ignore the meeting this afternoon. If you have other arrangements or need a break, go ahead.

Someone asked, Is that really alright, Mr. Grant? Isn’t she our superior?

He replied, Don’t worry. I’ll take the fall. This director is only in her 20s. Do you really think she earned that title? She’s just a nepo hire.

Allison had a friend in that group, who gave her a headsup. She hesitated all morning and ultimately knocked on the door of Bethany’s office at 1:30 pm. Quite a few people are on leave today, Ms. Porter. So, attendance may be low.

Bethany looked up and gazed at Allison for a while. That’s fine. We’ll proceed with the meeting. Those who attend can pass the information on to those who don’t.

Allison hesitated before asking, What if only a handful of people show up, Ms. Porter?

Bethany’s hand on her mouse paused, and she arched her brow. Did someone stop them from attending?

The only person who could do that was William.

It’s fine. Let’s proceed as planned. Don’t worry. I can handle it.

When the clock struck 2:00 pm, Bethany pushed open the door to the meeting room. As expected, only a handful of people were present. Even William was absent.

Bethany met Allison’s gaze calmly. Please make a note of the absentees and their reasons for absence. We’re revising the department rules. From now on, no more than onethird of the department can be on leave at the same time.

Who approved today’s leave? Mr. Grant?

Allison nodded stiffly. Yes, Ms. Porter.

I see. Mr. Grant will have his performance bonus deducted this month for poor management. Issue a written notice and circulate it to all departments. Oh, and don’t forget to send it in the group chat.Right after saying that, Bethany proceeded with the meeting.

The junior staff listened as they frantically tapped on their phones. They doubted whether she was only 25. It was her first day, and she was already making it clear who was in charge.

As soon as the meeting ended, William saw the notice in the group chat.
