Chapter 61
Easton’s respect for the young Bethany climbed even higher. The next generation really was something else.
“Well, then. On behalf of my team, allow me to thank you, Ms. Porter.”
He knew that Bethany was doing him a favor, and favors always needed to be repaid. As for when, that would be entirely up
to her.
Meanwhile, the shareholders‘ meeting was scheduled for that afternoon.
Antonio had prepared plenty of ammunition to make things difficult for Bethany, but he hadn’t expected so many minority shareholders to switch sides and support her instead.
“Ms. Porter is exceptionally capable. I don’t see much point in keeping her in HR. Why not transfer her to the operations department so she can get more experience? She might even bring in additional revenue for the company.”
“I agree. I already checked with Easton in operations, and he has no objections.”
Antonio had intended to use the other shareholders to pressure Bethany, but instead, he’d inadvertently pushed her straight into the operations department.
Bethany accepted it all graciously. She knew that the next time she changed departments, she’d be taking Antonio’s position.
The moment Bethany left the room, news of William’s promotion to director was announced.
William looked genuinely grateful. “Ms. Porter, I misjudged you before, and for that I apologize.”
Bethany smiled in response. “Just do good work.”
After all, winning over a troublemaker was far easier than replacing one.
Bethany had openly accepted Silas‘ gesture.
She invited him to dinner and left work an hour early to pick up a gift.
After browsing several stores, she finally decided on two matching ties for Silas and his boyfriend.
She used to think that Oscar was Silas‘ boyfriend, but it now seemed that Oscar was just someone who shared his interests.
Did that mean they both went for the same type?
Bethany didn’t really understand the dynamics of their circle, but she was relieved that this marriage wasn’t as terrible as Holly had made it sound. At the very least, Silas was willing to show her some respect in public.
Silas arrived right on time. When he noticed the box sitting beside his seat, he raised an eyebrow. “For me?”
Bethany nodded with a smile. “Thank you for the business introduction. This is just a small gift for you and your partner.”
This time, she’d been much more careful with her wording. Previously, she’d seemed to upset him over how she’d phrased
things.
Having been caught off guard once before, Silas seemed less surprised by the gift this time. He slipped both ties back into the
box.
“I like them. Thank you.”
“I wasn’t sure what you’d like, so I ordered a few things.”
Silas glanced at the menu. “I don’t eat cilantro, onions, or garlic.”
