Chapter 60
Bethany didn’t send Silas a single accusatory text.
The next morning, she skipped breakfast and drove straight to work.
Silas had returned late the night before, but Bethany was already long asleep by then.
When he got up for work, she was gone.
As a longtime maid of the Brennan family, Jane couldn’t help but say, “Mr. Brennan, don’t blame me for saying this. With you coming home so late and leaving early, it’s no wonder Mrs. Brennan’s upset. Mr. Brennan Senior is waiting to hold his grandchild next year, but you two are still sleeping separately.”
Criticism from someone familiar always hit the hardest.
Silas set down his fork and wiped his mouth. “I’m done eating. I’m heading to work now.”
Jane sighed and immediately reported the situation to Jeremy.
In the car, Silas kept a tense expression as he called Oscar.
Before he could say anything, Oscar beat him to it. “Don’t rush me, Silas. I’m driving over to your wife’s company to apologize right now.”
Silas gritted his teeth and said coldly, “You’d better be quick about it.”
Just as Bethany arrived at the company, Easton called her over to the operations department for an abrupt meeting.
In the meeting room, Bethany saw Oscar standing in wait.
Smiling, Oscar said, “Ms. Porter, it’s an honor.”
Easton cheerfully introduced him. “This is Mr. Oscar Mitchell, CEO of Mitchell Corp.”
Bethany was puzzled but still nodded politely. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Mitchell.”
Easton explained, “Ms. Porter, Mr. Mitchell has a new entertainment center project in Aleron that’s about to start construction. Our hotel in Aleron opened just last month, and Mr. Mitchell admires it. He wants to house their management
team at our hotel.”
Easton was visibly excited just talking about it.
Just one executive staying in a presidential suite would bring in one million dollars per year, even at a negotiated rate.
That would be three million dollars over three years! Better yet, Oscar was looking to place an entire management team of at least 50 people at their hotel.
Easton was practically buzzing with excitement.
As it turned out, Oscar was sincere in his apology. In fact, he even managed to flatter Bethany at the same time. “I encountered Ms. Porter at a party recently, and she promoted Elysian quite well. That’s why I chose your hotel.”
Bethany’s mouth twitched at the fabricated praise.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Clay, but would you mind stepping out? I’d like to have a private word with Mr. Mitchell.”
Easton knew that this deal was on the table solely because of Bethany, so he gladly agreed. “Sure, I have some files to send anyway. You two carry on.”
Once the room was empty save for the two of them, Bethany got straight to the point. “Mr. Mitchell, is this Silas‘ idea?”
Oscar dropped the formal attitude and put on a flattering smile. “Bethany, I’m sorry about last night’s trending news.
