Chapter 71
The woman, Karen Mars, shouted furiously, “Where’s Yvonne? I’ve never seen someone strip during a business meeting. Is she so desperate for men?
“She needs to show herself and apologize to me this instant! Otherwise, I’ll make this public. It won’t look good for Elysian’s reputation, so don’t say I didn’t warn you!”
Yvonne didn’t dare make an appearance. She hid in the restroom, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Please, I didn’t do anything. That woman is framing me. You have to help me!”
Soon, someone from HR came out to calm the situation down. They also called the police.
Bethany didn’t care what HR said to Karen, but half an hour later, the angry woman left.
She knew that Karen wouldn’t actually go public with the information. The whole thing was fabricated, after all.
Bethany went to Easton’s office soon after the fiasco. “Mr. Clay, how do you think we should handle this?”
Easton probed carefully. “Mr. Reeves just called me. He wants to keep this low–key. What do you think, Ms. Porter?”
“Whether this is a major or minor issue remains to be seen. But when someone comes to the office making a scene, it’s a real problem.”
Easton understood her underlying intentions. “I know how to handle it now.”
That afternoon, when Yvonne went home to rest, she received a termination notice from the company.
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She immediately called Easton, but his carefully worded response left Yvonne with no room to fight back.
“We will follow the standard severance procedure. In the meantime, take some time off, Yvonne.”
Yvonne’s lip bled from her biting down so hard. She then hung up and called Antonio instead.
Antonio summoned Bethany to his office. “I heard that firing Yvonne was your decision?”
Bethany nodded. She certainly wasn’t going to let Easton take the blame. “I had Mr. Clay announce the termination. Uncle, does firing a supervisor require your approval?”
It was just like when Bethany had fired that negligent head of security before.
Antonio took a deep breath. “Beth, you don’t understand the situation. An important client referred Yvonne to us. Letting her go will cause serious losses for Elysian.”
Bethany remained calm and smiled faintly. “Uncle, if we don’t fire her, and the client’s wife makes this public, it could end up on the news. That would be a fatal blow to Elysian’s reputation.”
“That woman’s spouting nonsense. Does she have proof?”
Bethany’s eyes narrowed as her lips curved. “Uncle, how can you be so sure she doesn’t have proof?”
Antonio was rendered speechless and ultimately had no way to deal with Bethany.
As she left his office, she happened to run into Demi, who was about to go in and see Antonio.
Bethany offered a slight nod in greeting and left soon after.
Demi stood there, staring at Bethany’s retreating figure for a long time.
She told herself that it couldn’t have been her. Bethany was so young and couldn’t already be so calculating.
