A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy's Woman novel Chapter 84

Chapter 84

Tension instantly flooded the room. Everyone felt a chill run down their spine.

The rich heirs sitting nearby had already fallen silent, barely daring to breathe.

Noah’s fingertips curled against the tabletop, then slowly relaxed.

He lifted his eyes calmly to look at the man sitting directly across from him, his gaze unreadable.

Silas leaned back lazily in his chair, his posture relaxed. But his eyes were like icecold blades, his expression full of disdain. Noah’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he spoke in an even tone. It looks like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, Mr. Brennan.

Silas leaned forward and slowly turned toward the drink cart, pouring himself some red wine.

The dark red liquid clung to the glass as it flowed, and he swirled it carelessly.

Just spit it out, Noah. All this beating around the bush is getting tiresome.

His indifferent gaze moved past the rim of the glass to Noah’s slightly darkened expression, and he scoffed lightly. After all, we’re not close enough to sit down for drinks and chat.

Noah’s eyes darkened. He tried to smile but couldn’t quite manage it. Gary Reid is my future fatherinlaw. I’m not sure what he did to offend you. But as for that land, didn’t you steal it from him?

Silas shrugged indifferently. I did steal it. So what? Just because he’s your fatherinlaw means I can’t go after it?

Noah let out a cold laugh. Silas, there’s usually a reason when someone does something like this. Is this really about Gary, or is it about me?

Silas stared at the wine in his hand and took a small sip, as if he’d just handled some trivial matter.

I’m not dissatisfied with anything. I just find your future fatherinlaw annoying, as is your future wife. That whole family simply disgusts me. Understand?

Everyone’s expressions stiffened. Silas was basically insulting Noah to his face.

Silas didn’t care how ugly Noah’s expression had become. He casually stood up. You called me here for something this trivial?

I’m leaving, then. Mr. Vazquez, save your energy playing mediator.

If you really want to help, just buy your fatherinlaw another piece of land,he said as he lowered his eyes with a slight smile.

The brief confrontation between the two rivals ended with Silas drawing the final line.

Noah couldn’t figure out what the Reid family had done to provoke Silas, but it seemed there was no room for negotiation at this point.

He stood up as well. You should all keep eating. I’m leaving as well.

Once both men left, the remaining people in the room could finally breathe.

I thought they were about to fight just now.

They wouldn’t. If they really did fight, the entirety of Claridge’s power structure would shift.

At 10:00 pm, Silas returned home right on time.

The orange motion sensor light in the entryway automatically lit up as he opened the door, its warm yellow glow dispelling the darkness behind him.
