Chapter 85
If Diana weren’t Bethany’s mother, Silas would have had someone hit her back just as hard.
Alas, he was still thinking of Bethany’s well–being, standing up for her without crossing the line.
The sharpness he’d displayed in the private room gradually faded from his features, leaving behind a softness even he couldn’t detect.
He slowly crouched by the bed, his gaze settling quietly on her peaceful face.
Bethany remained blissfully unaware, lost in a dream. At this moment, she licked her lips in her sleep.
Silas‘ breathing grew heavier.
He held his breath and leaned in slowly. Then, a brief, feather–light kiss landed on the corner of her slightly upturned lips before he pulled away.
The soft warmth he felt carried her faint, sweet scent.
Silas‘ lips curved as his burning gaze lingered on her sleeping face, something dark and turbulent stirring in his eyes.
How long would it take before she willingly fell in love with him?
The next day, Bethany stretched lazily.
Last night, she’d had a bizarre dream where Silas chased her for what felt like forever. She certainly hadn’t expected to dream
about him.
Maybe it was because they’d grown slightly closer recently. Bethany pressed her lips together and made a decision. Even if this was a contract marriage, she still needed to maintain the necessary distance.
When she came to the breakfast table in her nightgown, the man glanced at his watch abruptly. “Mrs. Brennan, did you forget? We’re supposed to leave for the cruise today.”
Bethany’s mind went blank. She quickly checked the wall clock.
Crap! With everything that had been happening lately, she’d completely forgotten about their plans.
“Wait for me. I’ll go and pack right now!”
She started to bolt for her room, but Silas caught her wrist. “There’s no rush. We’ve already missed the departure time anyway. Eat breakfast first, then pack slowly.”
They arrived at the harbor at 10:00 am. After boarding the cruise ship, Bethany realized that this wasn’t the same cruise listed on the two tickets she’d given Silas.
This luxury cruise was unimaginably massive. Aside from the two of them, the only other people on board were the staff.
“You…”
Silas shrugged casually. “Oh, I discovered yesterday that the tickets you gave me had expired, so I bought a ship on short notice.”
He chirped, “How is it? Do you like it?”
Bethany’s eye twitched. She let out a dry laugh.
What normal person would say something like that? Silas was obscenely rich!
