Madison
The article loaded, filling my screen with gossip site sensationalism.
I skimmed through the text quickly. The article itself was surprisingly professional, stating that Alexander Knight and Katherine Sinclair had mutually dissolved their engagement due to different life goals while maintaining professional respect for each other's business endeavors. Standard PR language. Boring.
But the comments section below was absolute chaos.
ManhattanGossipQueen: FINALLY! Everyone knew she was using him for publicity. Good riddance.
SocialiteWatcher: Plot twist: there's already another woman. Mark my words.
FashionInsider23: Katherine's going to DESTROY him. She doesn't take losing well.
NYCElite: Anyone else think this is suspiciously sudden? Like, engagement-ending-overnight sudden?
BusinessDaily: Knight Industries stock might take a hit from this. Investors hate instability.
GossipGirl2024: My friend works at Knight Industries. Says she saw Alexander with some women. Calling it now—that's the real story.
SincairLuxeFan: Katherine deserves better. Alexander's always been a player.
ManhattanMama: Good for him! Katherine was cold as ice. He needs someone who actually loves him.
UpperEastSider: Wait, I thought they were already married? How long can one engagement last?
NYCSocialite: They've been engaged for like five years. FIVE YEARS. Something was clearly wrong there.
FashionWeekly: This is devastating for Katherine's new collection launch. Terrible timing.
KnightIndustriesFan: Stock already dropped 2%. Called it.
RealityTVJunkie: I need the REAL tea. Who's the other woman???
I scrolled through more comments, my stomach twisting. Some supported Alexander, calling Katherine manipulative and calculating. Others dragged him, labeling him a heartless playboy who couldn't commit. A few speculated wildly about infidelity, secret affairs, and business deals gone wrong.
UpperWestSide: Anyone notice how FAST this happened? Like an overnight fast?
BusinessInsider88: Knight Industries just released a statement saying this won't affect operations. Damage control much?
NYCGossipHound: My cousin's friend works at Sinclair Luxe. Says Katherine's PISSED like throwing-things level pissed.
ManhattanSocialite: There's definitely another woman. Men don't end engagements for no reason.
KnightWatcher: Good. Katherine was using him. Everyone knew it.
FashionWeek2024: This is going to RUIN Katherine's new collection launch. Timing couldn't be worse for her.
I locked my phone, tossing it onto the bed. My hands were shaking slightly. Not from the article itself, but from what it represented. Alexander had actually done it. Ended things with Katherine publicly. No going back now.
I needed to call him. Find out where he and Ethan were.
I picked up my phone again, scrolling to Alexander's contact. Hit dial.
It rang twice before he picked up.
"Hey." His voice was warm and relaxed. "You're finally awake."
"Where are you? Where's Ethan?"
"We're out. Thought you needed sleep after last night." I could hear the smile in his voice. "Didn't want to wake you."
Heat crept up my neck at the memory. My thighs were still sore. "You could've left a note."
"I did. On the nightstand."
I glanced over. Sure enough, a folded piece of paper sat beside my phone. How had I missed that?
"Oh. I didn't see it."
"Clearly." He laughed. "We're heading back now. Ten minutes."
"Alright."
"Madison?"
"Yeah?"
