"Hahaha, utterly ridiculous!"
"Marshal Vale suddenly let out a cold, piercing burst of wild laughter.
The sound carried dense baleful energy with it, shaking the surrounding rock walls until dust sifted down in sheets."
"The Sylvan Kin are nothing but weak remnants hiding in the deep forest, clinging to their last breath. You dare talk about sparing lives in front of the celestials? A pack of reclusive cowards who ran from the world—what right do you have to negotiate with me and spout such nonsense?"
"The pressure around Marshal Vale dropped without warning.
His voice cut through the dark floor like ice, carrying a promise of slaughter that reached every corner."
"I will give you one last chance. Take this pack of outsiders and disappear right now. What happened today, I can let pass."
"But if you insist on standing in my way, then when the Celestial Alliance's million-strong host descends, flattens Evershade, and slaughters the whole Sylvan Kin, it will be far too late for regret."
Marshal Vale aimed the threat straight at Elder Cillian.
"Elder Cillian's face set hard, and a vicious edge churned between his brows.
He forced it down. He did not strike rashly. He only turned his gaze to Jared and waited for the decision."
"Jared paid no attention to Marshal Vale's surging pressure.
He slowly turned sideways."
His gaze moved one by one over the people beside him: Gwendolyn, her expression drawn tight; Nathaniel, steady and solemn; Elder Cillian, grave and commanding; and the captive cultivators who had endured torment and had only just broken free of their chains.
"His voice was not loud, but it drove straight into the heart.
""Facing the celestials' tyranny and their threats of death, are you afraid?"""
"A brief dead silence settled over the crowd.
No one answered. Only heavy breathing moved through the air."
"The next second, Nathaniel's fists clenched hard.
His battle will shot upward, and he was the first to roar, his voice bursting out like thunder.
""Cultivators of this age would rather die than bend. Not afraid!"""
"Not afraid!"
"All Freevale warriors raised their arms as one.
Their roar crashed through the floor, and their battle will spread like wildfire."
"Not afraid!"
"The Sylvan warriors' spiritual light blazed bright.
They shouted together, every spine unbowed."
"Not afraid!"
"The captive cultivators who had been tortured to the limit and clawed their way back from death finally broke open.
Everything they had swallowed for so long erupted at once. Their screams shook the air and rang through the world."
"Thousands upon thousands of shouts joined into one.
That vast will to resist tore through the darkness and crushed the sacred pressure around them."
"Jared slowly turned back.
His back stood straight as a pine, and his cold eyes fixed on Marshal Vale's blue-black face.
Word by word, his voice came out clear and sharp.
""Did you hear that? Every one of them stands without fear before the might of you celestials."""
"In that instant, Jared's right arm shook.
A ringing clang split the air, and the long-sealed Dragonslayer Sword suddenly came out of its sheath."
Across the keen blade, a vast surge of violet chaotic force rolled and boiled.
"Layer upon layer of chaos-flame coiled around the sword and burned high.
The violet flames were strange and overbearing, and an awful force capable of destroying all things burst loose."
"Move!"
The order fell, and the battle detonated in an instant.
"Jared's body suddenly became a violet afterimage.
Sword wind tore through the void. Violet sword-arcs crisscrossed in every direction, sealing off every space around Marshal Vale where he could dodge, each move cutting straight for a vital point with killing precision and no room left to live.
Marshal Vale’s expression tightened to the limit. The sable spear spun at high speed in his palm.
Spear shadows closed together without a gap. Thick baleful shadow condensed into a solid spear-curtain, meeting every slash with terrifying precision.
Spear and sword slammed together again and again. The shrill clash of metal rolled without a break, and violent shock waves of energy kept exploding outward.
Two figures, both pushed to impossible speed, wove and crossed through the dim void so fast the naked eye could barely follow them.
All that remained was a sky full of violet and black brilliance, flashing, tangling, and crashing together. The aftershocks of that battle kept ripping through the surrounding structures, the heavy prison walls collapsing inch by inch as broken stone and snapped iron flew everywhere.
On the other side, Gwendolyn had already moved with him. She would not stand there and watch.
Her fine hands flashed through the air, ten fingers rapidly forming the complex and mysterious Rimebinding Sign. In an instant, vast, bone-piercing icy divine radiance surged around her, and deepfrost power froze the nearby currents of air on the spot.
Countless slender, razor-sharp Hallowed Rime Needles formed within that divine radiance, packed so densely they seemed to cover the entire sky.
Wrapped in deep frost energy that could tear through sinew and bone, they shot toward every vital point on Marshal Vale’s body like a storm, locking down his movement and cutting into his flesh.
Marshal Vale had his full attention on blocking Jared’s storm of sword strikes. He could not dodge in every direction at once.
Even though he twisted his body at extreme speed and avoided most of the ice needles, several perfectly condensed Hallowed Rime Needles still drove hard into the flesh around his shoulder blade.
Bone-deep cold flooded through the wounds and invaded his meridians and flesh in an instant. It spread along his body, freezing his celestial power and slowing his blood, dragging down both his movement rhythm and the speed of his attacks until his motions lagged by half a beat.
That fleeting opening was enough to kill.
Jared seized the once-in-a-lifetime chance and poured the chaotic force inside him into the blade with everything he had.
The blade-light of the Dragonslayer Sword swelled several times over. Jared drove in with the momentum, and the impossibly sharp edge, wrapped in roaring violet flame, stabbed viciously beneath Marshal Vale’s left ribs.
“Pshhk!”
The muffled sound of steel entering flesh cut harshly through the air.
Marshal Vale’s whole body jerked hard. A metallic sweetness surged up his throat, and a low, stifled grunt forced its way out of him.
Pain swept through him from end to end, but he forced the wound down. His eyes burned red as the spear swept out sideways, wrapped in pitch-black baleful shadow, and the tyrannical force of the blow drove Jared back several yards.
He lowered his gaze and stared at the wound punched through beneath his ribs. Thick golden hallowed celestial blood kept welling out, soaking into the black panoply.
His hallowed celestial power was being burned and eaten away by the chaos-flame. The wound stabbed without mercy and refused to close.
