The King Of Warriors novel (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6644

...

Cloudflight Pavilion was silent.

Lydia Finch sat in the pavilion master's seat, a longsword across her knees. Cold light moved along the blade.

The message had already returned.

Jared wanted her life.

A bitter laugh escaped her.

She had lived for thousands of years. She had finally reached the seat of pavilion master. One wrong choice, and now that seat had become the place where she would wait for death.

Still, she did not regret the decision she had just made.

Cloudflight Pavilion would remain.

Her disciples would live.

That was enough.

"Pavilion Master, please run."

A disciple knelt before her, crying. "We will stop Jared. You can still escape."

Lydia shook her head.

"Escape where? He killed a Golden Immortal Level Seven demon hound king. Do you think I can outrun him?"

She rose with the sword in her hand and walked to the window.

Outside, the sky was clear.

"Tell him I am ready."

The disciples cried and begged behind her.

Lydia did not turn around.

She stood by the window and waited.

Jared arrived.

He entered the main hall and saw Lydia standing with her back to him, sword in hand.

"You came," Lydia said.

"I came," Jared answered.

"The people of Cloudflight Pavilion did not kill anyone from Clearwind Village. I forbade them from acting, and they obeyed me."

"I know."

Jared's voice was calm. "That is why Cloudflight Pavilion will remain."

Lydia turned to face him.

A bitter smile touched her lips.

"But I will not."

"No."

"Because I went there."

"Because you went there and did not stop them."

Lydia closed her eyes.

She breathed in once, slowly.

"Then do it."

Jared raised the Dragonslayer Sword.

Violet light flashed.

Lydia fell.

Blood spread across the floor beneath her.

The disciples of Cloudflight Pavilion knelt and wept.

Jared looked at Lydia's body for a moment.

His black eyes did not change.

Then he turned and left.

...

Sunset covered Bermu City.

Golden light poured over the streets, warm and bright, but the cultivators on both sides felt only cold.

Jared walked through the city alone.

His gray robe had been soaked dark red with blood.

The Dragonslayer Sword rested at his waist. Blood still marked the sheath.

No one blocked his path.

No one dared speak too loudly.

In a single day, one man had ended four powers that had ruled and fought in Bermu City for hundreds of years.

The Ironblood Mercenary Company.

The Graywolf Gang.

Blazefire Sect.

Cloudflight Pavilion's leadership.

The news was enough to shake Bermu City.

Perhaps even the whole Nineteenth Firmament would hear of it.

Jared ignored every stare.

He walked toward the city gate.

He remembered Alden Farrow.

The old man who had said every person in the village was his child.

He remembered the villagers who had looked at him with faith in their eyes.

They had treated him as a hero.

As hope.

And he had not protected them.

"I am sorry."

The words were barely louder than breath.

Gwendolyn came to his side and took his hand.

"It was not your fault," she said softly, with absolute firmness.

Jared stayed silent for a long time.

Then he nodded.

"Bury them well," he said. "After that, we go to Bermu City."

Rowan looked up through his tears. "Why are we going there?"

"To buy resources. To rebuild Clearwind Village."

Jared looked at the monument.

"Clearwind Village does not end here. As long as one of you is still alive, the village is still alive."

Light returned to Rowan's eyes.

"Yes."

He wiped his face and stood.

"As long as one of us still lives, Clearwind Village still lives."

His smile was faint.

It was full of grief.

But it also held strength.

And hope.

Jared looked at him, and the corner of his mouth lifted slightly.

Clearwind Village would not disappear.

Not while someone still lived.

Not while someone still remembered.

Clearwind Village would remain.
