A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 435

Chapter 435

ROMAN

I wasn’t supposed to be there.

That much I knew the moment I slowed my steps outside the door.

It was too early for movement like thatnot the normal kind anyway. The house still carried that quiet, halfawake feeling where everything was just beginning to stir, where even

footsteps sounded louder than they should.

That was why I noticed her.

Alpha Alexander’s mother.

She was moving through the hallway with purpose.

There was something in the way she walked that didn’t match the hour. No hesitation, no pause, no sign that she had just woken up. If anything, it looked like she hadn’t slept at all.

I told myself I would ignore it at first. That whatever it was, it wasn’t my place. That I didn’t

need to know.

If she noticed me again, she might think I was spying on her. She wouldn’t be totally wrong to

think that.

But then I saw her stop at their door.

And knock.

That was when curiosity stopped being something I could brush aside.

Because people didn’t go knocking on the Alpha’s door that early unless something was wrong.

But this was his mother, somaybe it was normal.

I didn’t move closer right away.

I stayed where I was, watching from a distance, just long enough to see the door open.

Alpha Alexander.

He let her in.

That alone told me enough.

And just like that, I was already walking until I was close enough.

Enough to hear.

It wasn’t just a conversation.

It wasserious.

Heavy.

The kind that didn’t leave room for anything else.

I stayed still, my arms folding loosely across my chest as I focused.

Helen had come up with some strange ideas to preserve Luna Faye’s life. Alpha Alexander didn’t like it, but he later agreed.

Of course he wouldThere was no other option anyway.

Then I heard her.

Luna Faye.

Her voice carried differently. Even without seeing her, there was something about the way she spoke that made it easy to recognize.

And what she was saying-

That was what caught me off guard.

She wasn’t arguing for herself.

Not really.

She wasthinking about someone else.

Talking about not wanting to put another person at risk.

About not wanting to be the reason someone else got hurt.

I frowned slightly, my brows pulling together as I listened.

Because that-

That didn’t make sense to me.

Not with everything already stacked against her.

If anything, this should have been the moment where she fought for herself. Where she held

on to whatever chance she had without looking back.

But she wasn’t doing that.

She was still thinking about others.

Even now.

I let out a slow breath through my nose, my gaze dropping for a second.

I didn’t understand that.

I didn’t think I ever had.

The little I knowpeople are not supposed to think like that when things get serious.

You protect yourself first.

You survive.

That was it.

Simple.

It’s the way of a warrior. Alpha Alexander made sure I got that part of the lesson more than anything else.

And here was his Luna, overthinking things when she should be fighting to survive.

And I didn’t know what to do with that.

And there was the situation with Alpha Alexander himself too.

He was offering himself.

Just like that.

Like it was the most natural decision in the world.

Of course he would.

I didn’t know why I was surprised.

It fit.

Everything about him pointed to that kind of choice.

Still-

Hearing it was different.

Because it wasn’t just a statement.

It was final.

And Luna Faye-

The tension between them was obvious, even from where I stood.

Neither one willing to give in.

Neither one willing to let the other take that kind of risk.

And for a second-

I didn’t know what to think.

I exhaled slowly, my shoulders rising and falling slightly.

This wasn’t something I could just stand there and listen to like it didn’t affect me.

I had already heard enough.

More than enough.

I pushed off the wall quietly, careful with my steps as I moved away from the door.

Because staying any longer would only make it worse.

And I didn’t need to hear anything else to understand what was happening.

Once I was far enough, I stepped outside.

The morning air felt different.

Quiet in a way that almost didn’t match what I had just left behind.

I walked without thinking at first, letting my steps take me somewhere away from the house,

away from the weight of that conversation.

Somewhere I could think.

When I finally stopped, it was in a quiet corner of the compound.

No one around.

No movement.

I sat down slowly, resting my elbows on my knees as I stared ahead.

And for a while-

I didn’t move.

I just thought.

About everything.

About Luna Faye.

About Alpha Alexander.

They didn’t have to take me in.

That was the part that kept coming back.

They didn’t owe me anything.

I was nothing to them when I first showed up.

No history.

No connection.

Nothing.

And still-

They gave me a place.

A chance.

Something I didn’t even know I needed until I had it.

I swallowed slightly, my hands coming together loosely as I leaned forward.

I couldn’t just ignore that.

I couldn’t sit back and pretend none of this had anything to do with me.

Because it did.

Whether they said it or not.

Whether they saw it that way or not.

I was already part of this.

And Alpha-

He wasn’t thinking straight.

Not completely.

I understood why.

Anyone in his position would react like that.

But that didn’t make it right.

Didn’t make it safe.

He wanted to be the anchor.

If something went wrong.

If things didn’t go the way they were hoping.

If Luna Faye didn’t make it out….

If something went wrong with the binding ritual, and Alpha Alexander….

I stopped the thought before it went any further.

But it didn’t matter.

I already knew where it led.

Alpha Alexander had no heir

I stared ahead, my jaw tightening slightly as the realization settled in deeper.

Because no one was saying it.

No one was thinking about it out loud.

But I was.

And I couldn’t ignore it.

If something were to happen to Luna Faye, to Alpha Alexander, and to Helenall at once

What happens to Blood Crescent?
