Chapter 526-2
With my free hand…
I knocked gently on the door.
I waited quietly outside.
ALEXANDER
A gentle knock sounded at my office door.
I looked up automatically.
“Come in,” I said.
The handle turned.
A second later… Faye stepped inside.
For a brief moment, I didn’t notice anything except her face.
Then my eyes dropped to the tray balanced carefully in her arms.
I blinked.
My gaze shifted from the tray…
Back to her.
Then back to the tray again.
I frowned slightly, trying to make sense of what I was seeing.
“…Is that what I think it is?” I asked.
Faye laughed softly, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Without answering immediately, she nudged the office door shut with the side of her leg before carefully making her way farther into the room.
I couldn’t take my eyes off her.
She walked toward the lounge area near the window with remarkable care, balancing the tray effortlessly
until she reached the coffee table
Only then did she lower it gently onto the surface
“I didn’t spill anything,” she said proudly
I finally found myself smiling
No…
Chapter 5264
Smiling wasn’t quite the right word.
At some point, without even realizing it, I had begun grinning like an idiot.
I pushed my chair back and rose from behind my desk.
I walked toward her while she remained focused on adjusting the dishes on the tray.
She moved the plates slightly.
Straightened the cutlery.
Adjusted the folded napkin.
She seemed completely determined to make everything perfect.
“I brought you dinner,” she explained casually.
I stopped beside the couch and folded my arms across my chest.
“I can see that,” I replied.
She looked up at me with an innocent smile before returning her attention to arranging everything.
I watched her quietly for another moment.
Then I asked, “Should I be concerned?”
She looked up again.
“Concerned?”
“Yes.”
She tilted her head. “Why?”
“This feels suspicious,” I said.
She laughed. “It does not.”
She shook her head.
“I simply cooked dinner for you.”
“Simply?”
“Yes. And then carried it all the way to my office,” I said
“What exactly is going on?” I asked playfully
She finally turned fully toward me
Her expression softened into something almost shy
“I wanted to do something nice for you
Chapter 5269
There wasn’t a trace of hesitation in her voice.
“I cooked dinner especially for you.”
She gestured toward the tray
“And I thought… if I brought it here instead of asking you to come downstairs, then you wouldn’t have excuse to stay buried behind your desk.
I looked from her…
To the tray…
Then back to her again.
“You’ve planned this rather well.”
She wasn’t wrong.
I would have insisted on finishing at least one more thing before leaving the office.
Instead…
She had removed that possibility entirely.
I walked over to the couch and sat down.
The aroma reached me almost immediately.
It smelled incredible.
I lifted the cover from the first plate.
Then the second.
Then the third.
Each dish looked as though it had come straight from the hands of an experienced chef.
I looked back at her.
“You made all of this?”
“I did,” she said.
“Yourself?”
“With a little supervision from Martha,” Faye said
“I see.”
My eyes returned to the food.
I honestly didn’t know which surprised me more
The fact that she had cooked…
Or the fact that she had carried it all the way here herself.
Before I could say anything else…
Another knock interrupted us
I looked toward the door.
I barely managed to get the first word out before Faye suddenly hurried past me.
“I’ve got it,” she said quickly.
I watched her with amused curiosity.
She reached the door with the confidence of someone who already knew exactly who was standing
outside.
The moment she opened it…
There stood Martha.
She smiled knowingly as she held another tray.
Resting neatly on top of it was a bottle of wine…
Along with two crystal glasses.
