Chapter 531-1
ALEXANDER
I looked at Faye for a long moment before reaching for my phone.

She was still sitting upright in bed. Her breathing had calmed slightly, but the fear in her eyes hadn’t. I knew
that look.
After the ritual and everything that followed, I had quietly assumed that gift had disappeared.
But looking at her now…
For the first time, I wasn’t so sure.
If what she had just seen wasn’t an ordinary dream…
Then there was a very real possibility that my mother was dying.
That thought settled heavily in my chest.
Without another word, I unlocked my phone and called her.
The phone rang several times.
Beside me, Faye watched the screen anxiously, her fingers twisting together in her lap.
Finally, the call connected.
“Hello?” Helen answered, her voice sleepy.
Relief washed over me almost immediately.
“Mom,” I said.
There was a brief pause.
“Alexander?” Helen asked. “Is everything alright?”
“Everything’s alright,” I replied, keeping my voice as casual as possible. “Did I wake you?”
Helen laughed softly.
“You certainly did. I wasn’t expecting to hear from you at this hour,” Helen said.
“I know,” I admitted.
Another brief silence followed.
“Is something wrong?” Helen asked.
I hesitated for only a second.
“No,” I replied. “I just wanted to check on you.”

She laughed again.
“You decided to randomly check on me in the middle of the night?” Helen asked.
“I suppose I did,” I said,
“Well,” Helen replied warmly, “I’m perfectly fine. A little grumpy now that you’ve interrupted my beauty
sleep, but otherwise I’m alright.”
I glanced at Faye.
She was watching me so intently that I didn’t need her to say anything.
I switched the call to speaker and handed the phone to her.
She accepted it immediately.
“Helen?” Faye called softly.
There was another brief pause.
“Faye?” Helen sounded pleasantly surprised. “You’re awake too?”
“Yes,” Faye replied quietly.
“You two are beginning to worry me,” Helen said with a small laugh. “Did something happen?”
Faye forced a laugh.
“No,” she answered gently. “I… just wanted to hear your voice. Is that so bad?”
Helen’s tone softened immediately.
“That’s very sweet of you,” she said. “I’m alright, dear. You don’t have to worry about me.”
Faye lowered her eyes briefly before speaking again.
“Are you sure?” she asked softly.
“I’m sure,” Helen replied reassuringly. “I’m doing just fine.”
I noticed Faye relax ever so slightly.
The fear hadn’t disappeared completely.
But hearing my mother’s voice had clearly eased some of it.
Helen chuckled softly.
“Although I must admit, I’m still curious. What brought this on?”
Neither of us answered.
Thankfully, she didn’t press the issue.
Instead, her tone brightened.

“Actually, this reminds me,” Helen said. “Faye, I’ve been meaning to tell you something.”
Faye looked at me curiously.
“What is it?” she asked.
“I’m planning a family get–together next week,” Helen replied.
She laughed lightly before continuing.
“I’m almost certain Alexander forgot to mention it to you,” Helen said.
Faye turned toward me with an amused smile.
I rubbed the back of my neck,
She wasn’t wrong.
I had completely forgotten.
“I thought as much,” Helen said, laughing softly.
“Irene will be coming home next week, so I thought it would be nice if all of us spent a day together. We’ll
