A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 620

Chapter 599

Chapter 599

SAGE

I woke up the next morning, the first thing I noticed being the empty space beside me.

For a few seconds, I simply stared at it.

The room was quiet, almost too quiet. Then the memory of the previous night came rushing

back.

My mood was ruined as I looked at the empty side of the bed.

He hadn’t come back. I had stayed awake for a while, waiting. I didn’t know exactly what I had expected.

Maybe I wanted him to walk through that door and try to explain himself. Maybe I wanted

him to realize what he had done.

Maybe I wanted him to have enough shame to come back and face me.

But hours passed, and Jason never appeared.

Eventually, exhaustion won. I had fallen asleep while waiting for him. A bitter feeling settled in my chest.

Of course he hadn’t come back. Why would he? Jason had never been good at admitting when he was wrong, especially when admitting it meant acknowledging that he had hurt me.

I pushed myself out of bed and headed into the bathroom. The warm water helped clear my thoughts, but it didn’t remove the anger.

If anything, it made me think more clearly. Last night had changed something between us.

Not just because of Alice. I had known about Alice. The problem was Jason’s attitude.

The way he had looked at me like I was the problem. The way he had protected her without

hesitation.

The way he had reminded me that he was Alpha, as if my position as his Luna meant

nothing.

I finished my shower, dried myself, and dressed for the day.

I wasn’t going to hide in my room. I wasn’t going to avoid him. Silver Hollow had enough problems without me allowing my personal anger to keep me away from my responsibilities.

When I stepped out, I went directly to Jason’s office.

I expected him to be there. I just didn’t expect him to already be dressed and settled, as though he had been awake for hours.

When I entered the office, I immediately noticed he wasn’t alone.

Claim

Three elders were seated with him, and Jason was standing near his desk, already dressed in

a different set of clothes.

For a moment, I wondered if he had returned to the room while I was asleep. He must have. He had probably changed and left before I woke up.

The thought irritated me more than I wanted to admit.

The elders noticed me first.

“Luna.”

They greeted me respectfully. I gave them a small nod.

“Good morning.”

I walked farther inside and took my seat.

Jason’s eyes moved toward me briefly.

There was no warmth there. No greeting.

Nothing.

I ignored it.

The meeting continued. I listened enough to understand the subject.

Alpha Conrad. North Ridge’s demands.

Jason was explaining that he wanted to send a message requesting a private meeting with

Conrad.

He wanted them to sit down and find a way to settle the issue before it became something

bigger.

I stared ahead but barely absorbed the conversation. My mind was somewhere else.

Part of me was still thinking about last night.

Part of me was wondering how Jason could sit there discussing the future of the pack after

everything that had happened between us.

Eventually, the elders finished their discussion. They stood and gathered their things. They greeted me again before leaving the office.

The moment the door closed behind them, the atmosphere changed. The silence between

Jason and me was immediate.

He looked at me.

“What are you doing here?”

I looked at him in disbelief. Then I rolled my eyes.

“This is the pack office, Jason.”

His expression remained cold.

“I know where we are. I asked what you’re doing here,” he said.

“Good.”

I relaxed in the chair.

“And I’m saying that I have every right to be here.”

His jaw tightened.

“I heard about what you did yesterday.”

I already knew where this was going.

“The scene you caused with Alice.”

I raised a hand, stopping him.

“Before you continue, you should be grateful.”

His eyebrows pulled together.

“For what?”

“For the fact that I didn’t actually hit your precious lover.”

His expression darkened.

“Watch your words.”

I ignored him.

“I walked into your office and found the two of you together. I could have done much worse.”

I leaned forward slightly.

“All I did was speak to Alice, and somehow you are standing here making it sound like

committed some kind of crime.”

Jason stepped closer.

“You don’t get to threaten her.”

I laughed quietly.

“Threaten her?”

“Yes.”
