Chapter 601
Chapter 601
FAYE
I thought I had woken up before Alexander did.
Claim
I lay there quietly for a few moments, enjoying the warmth of the bed, until I heard the soft
rustle of fabric somewhere behind me.
I turned my head.
Alexander was already getting dressed.
A small smile found its way onto my lips.
He had already pulled on a pair of dark trousers and was now slipping his arms into a white shirt, completely focused on fastening the cuffs before reaching for the buttons.
I simply watched him for a minute.
It was almost amusing.
I had spent the entire night beside this man, yet somehow, the simple sight of him standing there was enough to make my heart beat a little faster.
He had no idea.
He never seemed to realise the effect he had on me.
I bit my lower lip, shaking my head to myself.
“This is getting ridiculous,” I muttered under my breath.
“What is?”
Alexander glanced over his shoulder.
I smiled innocently.
“Nothing.”
He narrowed his eyes slightly, clearly unconvinced, but returned to buttoning his shirt.
After struggling with one button for a moment, I finally spoke.
“Do you need help?”
< Chapter 601
He looked at me again.
“With what?”
“Your shirt.”
A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“If you’re offering, I won’t say no.”
I pushed the covers aside and climbed out of bed.
Claim
The oversized T-shirt I had stolen from his wardrobe the previous night fell to the middle of my thighs, and I absentmindedly smoothed it down as I walked toward him.
Alexander watched me approach with that quiet expression of his.
The one that never gave away too much.
I stopped directly in front of him.
“You’d think the president of Crescent Dynamics would have mastered shirt buttons by now.”
“I try…”
“Oh?”
“I simply prefer letting my mate do it,” he said.
I laughed softly.
“Convenient,” I said.
I rolled my eyes playfully before beginning with the first button.
The room was peaceful.
The only sounds were our quiet breathing and the occasional birdsong drifting in through the open balcony doors.
I worked slowly, making sure each button lined up properly.
“You know,” I said, “if anyone saw this, your reputation for being intimidating would disappear overnight.”
“My reputation will survive, don’t worry.”
“You sound very confident,” I said.
< Chapter 601
“I am.”
I shook my head, smiling to myself.
Before I reached the next button, I felt his hands settle lightly around my waist.
I looked up.
“What?”
Claim
“You’re taking too long.” He pouted as his hands moved up and down my body, taking the shirt with them in every motion.
I laughed again as his hands gently pulled me closer until there was barely any space between us.
“You really are impatient.”
“I’ve been called worse.”
His hands remained at my waist while his thumbs idly traced small circles against the fabric of the shirt I was wearing.
The gesture was absent-minded.
But it made it surprisingly difficult to focus on what I was doing.
I cleared my throat dramatically.
“If you keep distracting me, you’ll be late.”
“I can afford another twenty minutes.”
I looked at him over the collar of his shirt.
“No, you can’t.”
He chuckled. “You’re right.”
I pretended to sigh.
“You’re so annoying.”
I finished another button before looking back up at him.
“If you keep this up, I might decide not to let you go to your appointment after all.”
His eyes warmed with amusement.
< Chapter 601
“Is that a threat?”
“It might be.”
He leaned down until his forehead rested lightly against mine.
“I thought you liked me being responsible.”
“I do.”
“But?”
“But I also like having you around… in very specific ways.”
A quiet smile crossed his face.
Claim
He pressed a gentle kiss against the side of my forehead before brushing another against my neck.
The simple affection made my smile grow.
“I have an idea,” he murmured against my neck.
“Oh?”
“Come to the company later.”
I blinked.
“The company?”
He nodded.
“I’ll finish my meeting, and then I’ll take you to lunch.”
I looked at him suspiciously.
“Lunch?”
“Yes.”
I couldn’t help laughing.
“Really?”
“Really.”
“What are we celebrating?”
Chapter 601
He frowned ever so slightly.
“Do I need a reason?”
I tilted my head.
“Well… you?”
plain
He looked genuinely confused.
“I don’t understand.”
“You’ve always been thoughtful,” I said, “but planning a lunch date without a reason doesn’t exactly sound like you.”
A small smile appeared on his face.
“I didn’t realise I needed a special occasion to have lunch with my mate.”
My expression softened immediately.
“You don’t.”
