Chapter 602
FAYE
I was already done and ready by the time the clock edged closer to noon.
Alexander had insisted that I meet him at the company for lunch, and surprisingly, I actually believed he would keep his word. Normally, if anyone had told me Alexander Blackwell had arranged a lunch date in the middle of a workday, I would have laughed and reminded them that my mate had an unhealthy relationship with meetings, paperwork, and anything that could be labeled “important.”
It could easily be a prank. Yet, this morning had felt different. He had looked genuinely pleased when he asked me to come.
That alone was enough for me to spend a little longer deciding what to wear.
I wasn’t trying to impress him.
Well…
Not entirely.
It simply felt nice knowing I was going somewhere because my mate wanted to spend time with me.
I slipped my phone into my handbag before my eyes landed on a document lying neatly on the dresser.
I had worked on it before going to bed last night. I had to drop it off at his office in the pack house before leaving.
I picked up the folder and headed downstairs.
The moment I opened the door, I saw Cole standing beside Alexander’s desk, looking through something.
He looked up almost immediately.
A smile spread across his face.
“Good afternoon, Luna.”
“Good afternoon, Cole.”
I smiled back before walking over to Alexander’s desk and placing the document neatly

where Alexander wouldn’t miss it.
“This needs to be reviewed.”
Cole glanced at it before nodding.
“I’ll take it from here,” he said.
“Thank you.”
I turned, intending to leave immediately.
“Are you ready to go?” Cole asked.
I stopped halfway to the door and looked back at him.
“Go where?” I asked.
“The company.”
I frowned in confusion.
“How did you know I was going to the company?”
Cole’s smile widened slightly.
“Alpha Alexander called a few minutes ago.”
Okay. Cole was in a strict, formal mode today. I tried not to laugh at his seriousness.
“He did?”
“Yes.”
He closed the file in his hands.
“He asked me to drive you over whenever you are ready.”
I couldn’t help laughing softly.
There was something amusing about the whole thing.
Claim
Alexander could have simply told me himself before he left that Cole would be taking me.
Instead, he had quietly arranged everything behind my back.
He liked making sure everything was taken care of in his own way.
I adjusted the strap of my handbag on my shoulder.

“Well…”
I smiled.
“I’m ready.”
Cole nodded once.
“Then let’s go.”
We walked outside together.
One of the cars was already waiting.
Cole opened the passenger door for me before walking around to the driver’s side.
Within moments, we were on our way.
The drive began in comfortable silence.
Sometimes Cole made it a point of duty to entertain me with conversation. But today was obviously not one of those days.
I was okay with that. I rested one arm against the door and watched the scenery move past
the window.
The roads looked busier than usual.
People hurried between shops.
Vehicles came and went.
Life continued exactly as it always had.
My thoughts drifted without warning.
The last time Cole had driven me to Alexander’s company…
It hadn’t been in this vehicle.
It had been in my own car.
I remembered every detail far more clearly than I wanted to.
That had been the first and only time.
I had gone to surprise Alexander.
Instead…

I had walked into his office and found Diana kissing him.
Even now, the memory made something twist painfully inside my chest.
I remembered how completely irrational I had become.
Claim
I hadn’t waited for explanations. I hadn’t wanted explanations. All I had wanted was to leave.
Before anyone could stop me.
Poor Cole had tried. I remembered him trying to calm me down.
Trying to stop me from driving in the state I was in.
Instead, I had snatched the keys from him without listening to a single word he said.
Then I drove away, too blinded by what I thought I had seen.
The accident followed shortly afterward.
The image flashed through my mind so suddenly that my fingers tightened around my handbag.
