Chapter 613
ALEXANDER
“Alpha.”
The voice came from behind me, pulling me out of my thoughts.

I turned slightly and saw one of the guards approaching along the patrol route. He had probably noticed me standing at the edge of the woods and stopped only long enough to acknowledge me.
“Alpha,” he repeated respectfully.
I nodded.
“Carry on.”
He bowed his head and continued along the path. I watched him disappear between the trees before finally looking down at my watch.
My brows drew together. I hadn’t realized how long I had been standing there.
The night had gotten darker while I was lost in my thoughts, and the quiet that had initially felt comforting had eventually become almost oppressive.
I pushed myself away from where I had been standing and started walking back toward the main house.
I didn’t have anywhere else to go. Besides, I had already spent enough time outside.
I walked through the entrance and into the living room, only to stop when I saw Faye. She was already dressed in her nightwear, which meant she was about to go to bed. She looked like she had been waiting for me. The moment she saw me, she stood.
“There you are,” she said.
I looked at her for a moment, and I wasn’t entirely sure how I was supposed to react to her.
I was still angry. The anger hadn’t disappeared simply because I had spent some time outside. If anything, being alone had given me more time to think about it.
Faye had known. She had known something as serious as that and kept quiet about it. Helen had asked her to keep it from me.

And she had agreed. The thought that she had even
worse.
meioned it to me by mistake made it
I understood that Helen had been the one who asked her. I understood that Faye might have felt trapped between keeping a promise and telling me the truth. But it didn’t change the fact that she had chosen to keep it from me.
Faye knew what trust meant to me. She knew how much I valued honesty, especially from the people closest to me.
I didn’t care whether someone lied directly to my face or simply decided there were things I didn’t need to know.
Keeping something from me was still unacceptable in every form.
And to think that Helen’s health was not some insignificant detail. This was about my
mother.
I could have walked straight past Faye… Part of me wanted to, but I didn’t. Instead, I stopped in front of her.
“What do you want?” I asked.
My voice came out more controlled than I expected. Faye seemed to notice something in my tone because she hesitated briefly before answering.
