More importantly, he needed to uncover exactly what kind of deal Amos had struck with that mysterious backer. Were their ultimate goals going to put Starla in danger?
Especially now, with Amos relentlessly launching covert attacks against Yardley. Under these volatile circumstances, who knew what insane extremes Amos would go to just to get what he wanted?
"Investigate and find out exactly who it is," Herbert ordered coldly.
Rudolf nodded. "Yes, Sir."
They had to look into it. Even though they hadn't been able to drag the mysterious mastermind into the light yet, digging deeper was absolutely essential.
"I just wonder if that unseen force poses a threat to her," Rudolf muttered. "With Amos targeting Mr. Hoggart right now, it's impossible to tell what collateral damage might happen! I wonder if she can see the situation clearly."
Herbert frowned.
Could she see it clearly?
Just thinking about the venomous words she had thrown at him over the phone gave Herbert a splitting headache. If she could actually see the reality of the situation, she probably wouldn't have tangled herself up with Amos in the first place.
It was infuriating. She would rather put her faith in Amos than trust them. Herbert was terrified that her misplaced trust in Amos would end up hurting her directly.
"Find out who is behind this as soon as possible," Herbert demanded, his voice dropping to a glacial chill.
There had clearly been three separate forces moving against Licht this time. Amos, Starla's hired mercenaries, and... a third faction. Starla's hired guns were a known variable. But that third, unidentified force was the one making everything so unpredictable and impossible to defend against.
...
Meanwhile, on Starla's end.
After the chaos on Manton Isle settled, Romy asked her, "Should we head straight to Cyrus Sea?"
Now that Licht was dealt with, the shadowy assassins constantly gunning for her life were entirely wiped out. She no longer had to hide in Sylvan Vale.
The living conditions in Sylvan Vale were notoriously harsh. Ever since arriving there, Romy had found it incredibly difficult to adjust. She used to think Cyrus Sea was a rough place, but Sylvan Vale was a whole different level of misery.
Especially hot off the heels of a massive victory against Lichtโit was the perfect recipe for extreme arrogance. Yardley had kept his boot on Amos's neck for far too long. Every waking second, Amos had dreamt of finding ways to make Yardley's life a living hell.
Before, he could only cause minor annoyances. Now that he actually had the firepower to rebel, of course he was going to launch a full-scale war.
"But..." Romy hesitated, "that doesn't affect you, does it? You don't need to worry about Mr. Kunan turning against you because of it."
"Is that so?"
Starla's cynical smile deepened. It was a look of pure, unadulterated skepticism.
"You don't believe it?" Romy urged. "Amos isn't that kind of person."
Those who worked closely with Amos always had faith in his character. But that faith...
"What kind of person he is has absolutely nothing to do with me," Starla said evenly. "I only trust myself."

Hahaha This plot of story i hate about, choosing another girl instead of your own wife is something unreal, you didnt considered your wife feeling, you didnt even trust her and later on you will say sorry?? Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
