A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1083

More dangerous?

Yes, infinitely more so.

"I really never expected Brinley Seabrook to bring me this much grief," Starla muttered.

Back in Marina City, that woman had constantly disrupted her life. Now, back in Yoran Country, Brinley was an active threat to her very survival. Even in death, she refused to let Starla have a moment's peace.

"That's why I had to use this method to get you out," Herbert said quietly. "Actually..."

Actually what?

Seeing her expression darken, he stopped himself. He knew she wouldn't accept his methodsโ€”she couldn't. But after weighing all the options, his only goal had been to make her vanish from Yardley's world entirely.

"What about Harriet Seabrook?" Starla asked suddenly.

Harriet. It had been a long time since that name had been brought up. Everything Brinley had done was deeply connected to her mother.

"I haven't been keeping tabs on her," Herbert admitted, slightly taken aback by the sudden shift in topic.

Truth be told, Harriet had been thoroughly crushed under Starla's counterattacks. Her current situation couldn't possibly be good.

"Find out exactly where she is," Starla demanded. "That woman is incredibly cunning."

When she first returned to Yoran Country, Starla had kept a close eye on Harriet's movements. But eventually, she had been too overwhelmed to keep tracking her. Her own life had been torn to shreds.

Life truly was a stage. You never knew what the next act would hold. Just when you thought the show was over, something else was waiting in the wings.

"I will," Herbert promised.

Starla's face remained utterly cold. Though her emotions seemed stable for the moment, Herbert knew she still couldn't stand the sight of him. She needed time to digest everything that had happened.

He quietly left the room.

Once alone, Starla glanced at her phone. It was a brand-new device, clearly replaced by Herbert. He really had thought of everything.

But the truth was, she didn't need the phone. There was absolutely no one she wanted to contact right now. Not even Tanya Mercer.

"Where is Herbert right now?"

"He's been out looking for her non-stop," Amos replied.

Everyone was losing their minds over her disappearance.

Fairfax pinched the bridge of his aching nose. "Who do you think actually took her?"

"There had to be another faction present at the scene. I'm having my people look into it now."

They still didn't know who else had been lurking in the shadows.

"Hurry up!" Fairfax snapped.

"The second you took her out of the Cyrus Sea, you knew things would get unpredictable," Amos stated flatly. "Once you leave this territory, things are out of your control."

And to think Fairfax had actually promised Starla he would keep her safe.
