A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1134

After everything that had happened, she was no longer a naive girl who blindly trusted sweet words. No matter what anyone said, her heart remained steadfast and unmoved. It didn't matter how warm or gentle his expression was.

When she didn't reply, Herbert lightly pinched her waist. "I know you don't trust me right now."

"I won't trust you for the rest of my life," she cut in sharply.

She made herself perfectly clear, hoping he would realize he was wasting his time. That was just who she wasโ€”once someone shattered her trust, they couldn't just casually pick up the pieces. If she placed her faith in someone, they had better cherish it. Neither Fairfax nor Herbert had done so.

Herbert paused, momentarily taken aback. He rested his chin on her shoulder and let out a soft sigh. "A lifetime is a very long time. Let's not speak in absolutes, alright?"

He knew she was trying to push him away, to make him give up. But how could he ever let her go?

"If you don't want to believe me, that's your problem," Starla replied.

"Just don't think about leaving me."

He had no other demands. Only one: no matter what happened, she couldn't leave him. Remembering the sheer determination she had shown when she decided to leave Fairfax, and the lengths she went to achieve it, terrified him. He knew better than anyone that once she set her mind to escaping, nothing could hold her back.

And he was acutely aware that she harbored those exact same thoughts about him now. That was why everyone in Smaro Town was on high alert, keeping a close eye on her.

"I heard a new restaurant opened in town," Starla said, abruptly changing the subject. "They serve Marina City cuisine."
