A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1142

But living in that kind of beauty made you realize just how relentlessly long the winters could be. It snowed constantly, making it nearly impossible to get around.

Even so, Starla still loved it.

"I heard that when spring comes and the snow finally melts, the mountains are covered in wild berries. They say they're delicious."

Herbert remained silent. Things like that didn't hold any appeal for him. But as long as she liked it, that was all that mattered.

...

The brief trip outside had drained Starla. Not long after returning, she fell fast asleep. Her health had been fragile lately anyway.

Herbert quietly left her room and headed downstairs, where Rudolf was already waiting.

Seeing him approach, Rudolf stepped forward respectfully. "Sir, about Ms. Mercer..."

"Shh."

Herbert cut him off with a sharp gesture before he could finish.

Rudolf closed his mouth.

Starla's attitude in the car had been fiercely uncompromising, especially with the ultimatum she had laid down. That meant dealing with Tanya wasn't going to be easy. No matter how the woman met her end, Starla would directly pin the blame on them. That made the situation incredibly tricky.

Herbert walked over to an armchair and sat down, pouring himself a glass of red wine. His dark eyes were clouded with deep thought and a trace of irritability.

"This is going to be difficult," he murmured.

Rudolf nodded. It certainly was. Starla's message was loud and clear: Tanya had to be protected at all costs.

"Is Darian Lynn still looking for her?"

"She'll leave," Herbert repeated.

Rudolf waited for him to elaborate.

"Even if she doesn't want to, Starla will make her."

Starla was highly vigilant. After the blatant hostility Herbert had shown toward Tanya earlier, there was no way she would feel safe letting her friend stay.

Hearing this, Rudolf finally understood.

"The moment she steps foot out of Smaro Town," Herbert ordered, his voice cold, "leak her location to Darian immediately."

Tanya couldn't be allowed to roam free. Out in the world, she was a wildcard who could easily influence Starla's judgment of him. The only solution was for Darian to drag her back. Once she was drowning in her own chaotic love life, she wouldn't have the time or energy to whisper in Starla's ear.
