Yvonne facepalmed.

Her head hurt. It really did.

Deciding he didn't need to listen to this, Fairfax simply hung up.

Hearing the dial tone, Amos stared at his phone in bewilderment.

"Seriously? How did I piss him off this time?"

When they were face to face, Fairfax would just glare at him. Over the phone, he just hung up!

He was impossible to deal with!

"Why would you tell him his family weren't good people?" Yvonne demanded.

Who in their right mind could handle hearing that?

It was practically asking for a death wish!

"But it's the truth!" Amos defended himself. "Look at what they did to Brinley Seabrook!"

"If his family were decent people, he and Starla wouldn't have ended up tearing each other apart!"

"They're still his family. Good or bad, they're his blood, and he won't tolerate anyone trashing them."

Because they were family, you couldn't just casually insult them to his face.

"Right, and it's exactly that kind of blind loyalty that ruined everything between him and Starla!"

To put it bluntly, Fairfax was a massive mama's boy when it came to his family!

She had to admit, that was a huge part of the problem.

But this was definitely not the time to bring it up. "This is exactly why people say you have zero emotional intelligence."

Not only was his EQ low, his IQ wasn't exactly stellar either.

He was severely lacking in both departments.

"You see, he won't listen," Amos grumbled. "If Yardley snaps, he's actually going to kill him!"

"Didn't you say we weren't going to get involved in his mess before we came here?" Yvonne reminded him.

He had said that, but now that push had come to shove, he was genuinely worried about Fairfax.

"It blew up alright," Amos murmured.

"Is Fairfax dead?"

He had taken a tiny force into Maxlandia. Against someone like Yardley, that was nothing. If news was already spreading, Yvonne assumed Fairfax had been wiped out.

"No!" Amos replied.

"Not dead? Man, he's got nine lives!"

After all, Yardley struck with lethal efficiency. Fairfax shouldn't have lasted five minutes.

Yardley could probably crush him even in Cyrus Sea, let alone when Fairfax delivered himself to his doorstep.

"Yardley didn't even touch him," Amos explained.

What was that supposed to mean?
