Fairfax marched over to the desk, aggressively pulling out a chair with a sharp scrape against the floor, and sat down opposite Yardley.
Yardley took a slow drag from his cigar, his icy gaze fixed on the man across from him.
"Let Susanna go first," Fairfax demanded.
Let her go first? Yardley scoffed internally. Fairfax wanted Susanna out of the crossfire, but as for himself...
"I don't want to drag her into this any further," Fairfax stated, his voice laced with frost.
As a man, Yardley knew exactly what Fairfax was implying.
"Drag her into this? Hah." Yardley let out a dark chuckle. Was this really just about dragging her into things? Susanna had been right in the middle of this from the start. "What right do you have to keep her here?"
Fairfax clenched his jaw, glaring at Yardley. That bastard. Over the last twenty-four hours, Fairfax had launched a full-scale assault against the Clark family, uncovering all the necessary truths. And despite knowing everything, Yardley was still holding Susanna hostage!
"Talking to me about rights? Don't you think that's a bit rich?" Yardley mocked, taking another pull from his cigar.
Fairfax’s already dark expression turned pitch black. "What exactly do you mean by that?" Was the man completely throwing logic out the window?
