A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1223

Every time Fairfax spoke her name, it was laced with venom, as if he wanted to crush her between his teeth.

*When will this endless cycle of revenge finally stop?* Caden wondered silently.

In the past, Caden had always secretly sympathized with Starla. But this time... even if things had gotten wildly out of hand, the price of this mistake was far too heavy.

...

When Yardley Hoggart received the intel that Herbert Farley was still alive, he was utterly incredulous.

He frowned sharply at Garret. "Is this verified?"

Garret nodded. "Nine times out of ten."

Rumors like this didn't just materialize out of thin air. If the whisper was out, it was practically guaranteed.

A heavy silence suffocated the study.

Yardley didn't say a word, his expression entirely unreadable. His fingers tapped a slow, rhythmic beat against the armrest of his leather chair. Beneath the surface, however, a storm of calculations was flashing in his eyes.

Garret stood by, waiting for orders.

After what felt like an eternity, Yardley let out a low, amused laugh. "Well, isn't this an interesting plot twist."

*Alive.*

"Why did he survive? And why fake it in the first place?" Yardley muttered.

Garret remained quiet.

*A world where Starla Lansbury no longer exists.* That was exactly what she had craved.

Yardley's voice dripped with lethal intent. He had never been played this magnificently in his life. His little sister had some serious nerve. And Herbert? He was insane enough to orchestrate the whole thing for her!

"Deploy our best men. Find her. I want to look her in the eye and ask if I look like an absolute idiot to her."

Yardley was livid. He couldn't stomach the fact that he had been manipulated.

"Just to ask her if you look like an idiot, sir?" Garret asked carefully.

The temperature in the room instantly plummeted to sub-zero. Garret caught his slip and backpedaled swiftly. "I'll dispatch the teams immediately!"

He practically bolted for the door.
