Listening to the dial tone, Fairfax violently hurled the phone across the room. It shattered against the wall with a sickening crack.
He lit another cigarette, his hands shaking slightly.

She really was alive. He had suspected it, but having it confirmed was something else entirely. A tidal wave of pure hatred washed over him.

When Herbert returned to the cabin, the atmosphere around him was suffocatingly heavy. Stepping out of his car, he spotted Starla sitting quietly in the small courtyard. Romy was busy in the open-air kitchen nearby.
He walked straight up to Starla.
"We need to leave," he stated flatly.
Starla didn't respond.
"Fairfax knows I'm alive. He's undoubtedly figured out you are, too."
It was disastrous news. As he spoke, Herbert's gaze shifted toward Romy, his eyes flashing with lethal intent.
Starla followed his gaze. "It wasn't her."
Herbert frowned. "You already know?"

Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
