Having seen Fairfax operate in Cyrus Sea, Romy knew exactly what kind of unhinged psychopath he could be. The fact that he valued his toxic family above all else was obvious. She had been fully prepared for him to launch a full-scale assassination attempt against Starla for what happened to the Yelchins, and she had already been strategizing their defense.

She was just as shocked that Fairfax had backed down. But whether he was plotting something else in the shadows was anyone's guess.
Romy looked at her. "What about you?"
"Me?"
"Herbert is gone, and Fairfax's men are gone," Romy nodded. "What are you going to do?"
"We still have Yardley Hoggart to worry about, don't we?"
"Oh, right," Romy grimaced. "Him."
Right on cue, Starla's phone began to vibrate. She glanced at the screen. The number looked vaguely familiar. After a second, it clicked.
It was Susanna Yelchin.
"Why aren't you answering? Who is it?"
"It's Susanna."
"Her? Why the hell is she calling you now?"
Romy had zero respect for Susanna. Starla had previously mentioned she was the most 'normal' of the Yelchins, but Romy's brief encounter with her had proven otherwise. Deep down, she was cut from the same manipulative cloth as the rest of her family. "Whatever it is, it can't be good."
