Herbert deliberately let the sentence hang in the air.
The tension between the two men crackled through the phone, both radiating an incredibly lethal aura.
"Then I have a thousand ways to make sure Susanna disappears," Herbert finished, his voice like ice.
"Don't you dare!" Fairfax roared, his jaw clenching so hard his teeth threatened to crack.
"All I want is for Starla to live the rest of her life in peace," Herbert stated simply.
Live in peace?
"So, figure out how to put a leash on your sister," Herbert advised, and before Fairfax could utter another word, the line went dead.
Listening to the dial tone, the chill rolling off Fairfax grew even more intense.
Thad gathered the signed documents and quietly stepped out of the office. Once he was alone, Fairfax slammed his expensive pen onto the desk with a sharp *crack*. Frustrated, he lit a cigarette, took two deep drags, and immediately dialed Susanna's number.
She picked up almost instantly.
"Fairfax."
"Is it your doing that Yardley is tearing the world apart looking for her?" Fairfax demanded bluntly, his tone unforgiving.
The sheer venom in his voice made Susanna pause for a second.
Then, she let out a cold, soft laugh. "What exactly are you implying?"
"Don't harbor those kinds of thoughts about her!"
"What thoughts?"
"You know exactly what I'm talking about!" Fairfax growled, emphasizing every syllable.
An eerie silence settled over the line.

Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
