Starla caught a glimpse of the name on the screen and felt a fresh wave of guilt. Fairfax’s relentless pursuit of Herbert over their divorce was becoming a serious problem.

Herbert simply declined the call.

"I'm sorry," she said again. Anyone in his position would be annoyed.

"It's not your fault," Herbert assured her.

"I never expected him to react this way," she admitted. Herbert had previously suggested they let Fairfax believe what he wanted, to use his suspicion to their advantage and focus on securing the divorce. But when Starla had confessed to 'liking' Herbert, Fairfax hadn't agreed to a divorce at all. Instead, he had doubled down, harassing Herbert endlessly. The man was infuriating!

It was a harsh lesson: when marrying someone, you should always consider whether they are capable of a civil separation. Once you're entangled, getting free is never easy.

The meal was served. Starla had arranged for a wide variety of dishes, unsure of Herbert's preferences. It was a lavish spread.

"This is a lot of food," Herbert remarked, looking at the feast before them.

"An apology meal requires a sincere effort," she explained. "Though I know this can't possibly make up for all the trouble I've caused you."

"Relocating an entire company will be complicated, and the paperwork will take a long time," Herbert noted.

"I know, but it has to be done," she said with determination. It was the fruit of her labor; she couldn't just abandon it. The process would be long, but then again, so would her divorce from Fairfax. She had hoped for an amicable settlement, but it was clear he wouldn't agree. She would likely have to start legal proceedings.

"You're right," Herbert said with a nod. "It's a hassle, but it's manageable. I can handle things on the Marina City end, and your brother can help you in Yoran Country."

"No, I can't ask you to do any more for me," she said quickly. She already felt indebted to him for the trouble with Fairfax.
