How dare Herbert treat her this way? Just because she liked him, he thought he could humiliate her? Xenia's chest heaved with rage. She wanted to storm back in and demand an explanation, but she knew she'd never get past security.

Fuming, she pulled out her phone and called Darleen.

Her mother answered cheerfully, "How did it go? Did Herbert enjoy the food?" She was clearly expecting good news.

Xenia, already on the verge of exploding, unleashed a piercing scream into the phone. The shriek was so loud it made Darleen flinch on the other end.

"What is wrong with you, you wretched girl?"

Darleen had a sinking feeling. A moment later, her fears were confirmed as Xenia wailed, "Enjoy it? He didn't even touch it!"

"So he didn't eat. Why are you so upset?" Darleen snapped, her patience gone. Did she really expect Herbert to drop everything just because she brought him lunch? What if he'd already eaten? It was hardly a reason to have a meltdown.

"I want that bitch Starla dead! I want her to die!" Xenia shrieked, her voice cracking with hysteria.

Yesterday, when Darleen had angrily suggested the same thing, Xenia had been hesitant, worried about Fairfax's reaction. But now, she wanted nothing more than for Starla to be gone for good. Why else would Herbert refuse to even look at her? It had to be because of Starla. If Starla disappeared, there would be nothing standing between her and Herbert.

"What has gotten into you, Xenia?"

"Herbert had me thrown out! His security guards threw me out onto the street!" Xenia bellowed into the phone.

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before the man asked, "Ms. Yelchin, didn't you know?"

"Know what?"

The unexpected question threw her off. Was there something she was supposed to know?

"Starla was intercepted on her way from Luwood Mountain yesterday," the man explained. "Mr. Farley picked her up himself."

Xenia froze.
