“This is a Yelchin family car!” Darleen seethed.

What did it have to do with Starla? What did she mean, cut unnecessary expenses? If she wanted to be frugal, she could do it on her own time. How dare she interfere with their use of the family cars!

“It belongs to the Yelchins, yes, but our lady is now the mistress of the Yelchin family. The prosperity of a family depends on having a prudent woman in charge.”

Darleen was speechless. Prudent? This wasn't prudence; it was a blatant attempt to torment them. That wretched woman…

“What mistress? I’m still alive! And if not me, there’s Brinley! Does she really think she can run this family already?” Darleen shouted at the car window as the servant got in.

The servant inside just shot her a disdainful look. “Whether our lady can run this family or not… haven’t you seen enough proof these last two days?”

With that, the car sped away.

They claimed they were cutting expenses by stranding them here, yet a group of servants was driving the car back? What kind of twisted logic was that?

Darleen swayed, overcome with rage. “She’s doing this on purpose, just to torture us. What did I ever do to her that she has to treat me like this now?”

At that moment, she felt like her heart might give out from the sheer anger.

At this, Darleen’s face grew even darker. Act like a daughter-in-law? Did Starla look like she had any intention of playing that part? The only reason she wasn’t divorcing Fairfax was to make their lives a living hell.

“Exactly, Mom! Are you just going to let her walk all over you?” Brinley added, her tone laced with disappointment. The old woman had been so formidable when dealing with Starla before. Why was she so weak now?

Brinley’s comment only fueled Darleen’s anger. She wanted to crush Starla more than anyone, but the woman had brought an army with her. The last time she’d insulted her, Starla had her servants slap her across the face. The memory of those servants striking her without hesitation, even with Fairfax present, filled her with a mixture of rage and fear.
