Seething, he stormed up the stairs to find her. He wanted to strangle her right then and there. Yes, his mother had been completely in the wrong before, and Starla had every right to ignore her. Seeing her son manhandled like this, Darleen’s eyes burned with fury. "You bastards, let him go! Who do you think you are, treating us this way in our own home?"

She lunged forward, but one of Starla's staff members stepped in and slapped her hard across the face.

"From now on," Garret stated coolly, "you will not disturb our lady when she is sleeping."

"We never treated her like this!" Darleen protested.

"Oh, really?" Garret countered. "As I recall, you never cared what time it was when you wanted to give her trouble."

Xenia and Darleen fell silent. He was right. In the past, whenever Fairfax brought Starla to stay the night, they had made her life miserable.
