And what about Fairfax? When he was still in control, he would have sided with Darleen and Brinley without a second thought, resolving any issue they had with Starla.
But now, he was powerless against Starla's methods. Their complaints had become nothing more than an irritation he couldn't fix.
"If you can't do anything, then shut up and stop making things worse!" Brinley retorted before storming out the door with Sally.
Her words hit Darleen like a physical blow, and she nearly fainted from rage. "Fine, just fine! So now everyone thinks they can walk all over me, is that it?"
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. But what could she do? This was her home, yet she couldn't even make a simple bowl of soup for her sick daughter.
Defeated, Darleen returned to the room empty-handed.
Xenia saw she had nothing. "Mom, I'm so hungry."
"I... I'll call Susanna," Darleen said finally.
Xenia had suggested it earlier, but Darleen had been reluctant. Now, she picked up her phone and dialed. She tried once, then twice, but there was no answer.
Looking at the time, Darleen frowned. "Does Susanna have a habit of silencing her phone when she sleeps?"
"Yes, she does," Xenia confirmed.
It was a bitter irony that Darleen didn't even know such a simple thing about her own daughter.
"We'll just have to hold out for one more night, then. There's nothing else we can do."
"But I haven't eaten all day," Xenia whimpered.
"Neither have I," Darleen said, closing her eyes. They had lost the will to challenge Starla. All they could do was endure.
Both Fairfax and Gabriel were surprised to see him there, especially since Felix had been at odds with the Yelchin Group for years. In Fairfaxโs mind, the man was a despicable scoundrel. Why was Brinley getting into his car?
Fairfaxโs eyes narrowed. "Did you see that?"
Gabriel glanced at Fairfax in the rearview mirror before nodding. "Yes, sir. That was definitely Brinley."
"And the car belonged to Felix Fowler?"
"Yes. He was driving."
Fairfax fell silent. So it was him. He hadn't been mistaken. He never knew Brinley was acquainted with Felix. What could she possibly be doing with a man like that?
"Should we follow them, sir?" Gabriel asked tentatively when Fairfax didn't speak.

"You're a failure as a husband and coward as a Man" This is what i want to say in Fairfax hahaha you dont deserved a wife if you cant protect her...
Hahaha This plot of story i hate about, choosing another girl instead of your own wife is something unreal, you didnt considered your wife feeling, you didnt even trust her and later on you will say sorry?? Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
