A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 527

Herbert and Tanya were right. She couldn't afford to still be married to Fairfax when he discovered her true identity. He already knew about the companies in her name and that Larry was helping her. If he dug deeper, he might uncover her connection to Yardley sooner rather than later.

That’s why she had to get him to sign the divorce papers now.

Fairfax’s hands clenched into fists. “You seem to be in a real hurry to get a divorce. Is it because Kael is coming to Marina City? Worried he won't approve of your marital status?” he ground out.

He could have accepted losing her to a man like Herbert, who was genuinely exceptional. But losing her to some old man? That was a humiliation Fairfax couldn't swallow.

“No,” Starla replied calmly. “You’re the one who’s in a hurry, not me.”

He fell silent. She was right.

Starla had seen how much he’d wanted a divorce these past few days, and now she was using it as leverage to demand the entire Yelchin family fortune.

Just then, Fairfax’s phone rang. It was Harley Yelchin, calling from abroad.

“What the hell have you done to get on the wrong side of the Hoggart Group?” Harley demanded, his voice seething with anger.

Fairfax was speechless. What could he possibly have to do with the Hoggart Group? He glanced instinctively at Starla.

“What’s wrong?” he asked into the phone.

Starla said nothing, but even from a distance, she saw the name ‘Grandma’ on his screen. Garret had acted quickly, and so had Yardley. The entire Yelchin family was now descending into an unprecedented level of hell.

Under Starla’s smiling gaze, Fairfax answered the phone with a trembling hand. “Grandma.”

“What is wrong with you? Are you just going to let some woman walk all over you?”

Fairfax flinched at her words and looked again at Starla. Before he could respond, Annika’s imperious voice crackled through the phone, tight with fury. “She’s trying to kick me out of my care facility! What does she think she’s doing? Have you completely lost control of her?”

The facility had informed Annika that she had to leave. The reason given was that the Yelchin family had stopped making payments—an action taken in Starla’s name.
