Before she could retort, Darleen hung up. Her own face was a mess of scratches and bruises. She had fought back when Brinley attacked her, and the two had ended up in a full-blown brawl.

Just as she pocketed her phone, it rang again. This time it was Harley. “So you’re telling me you can’t control Starla?” he demanded, his voice laced with fury.

Clearly, Harley shared Annika’s sentiment. They both believed Darleen should have been more than capable of handling one girl.

Darleen felt a wave of indignation wash over her.

“Do you have any idea how many times I’ve called you?” she fired back, her own anger finally erupting. “Every single time, you say you’re coming back, but you’re still not here! What could you possibly be doing overseas that’s so important you can’t even come home?”

Starla had been tormenting her for what felt like an eternity, leaving her with no one to turn to. And now Harley had the audacity to accuse her of not being able to manage Starla.
