When Starla pushed the front door open, she nearly collided with Fairfax, who was storming toward the entrance with his fists clenched tight.
Seeing his white-knuckled grip, Starla raised an eyebrow, a mocking smirk playing on her lips. "What's this? Are you on your way out to hit someone?"
The way she said 'hit someone' was dripping with sarcasm, clearly finding his tough-guy act completely laughable.
"What the hell is going on between you and Herbert?" Fairfax demanded, feeling like he was losing his mind.
Just hours ago, she had spent two hours locked in a private room with Kael at the banquet. And now, she was outside wrapped in Herbert Farley's arms. What kind of twisted love triangle had she tangled herself in? It was chaotic. To Fairfax, Starla had become an utterly incomprehensible mess.
"Whatever is going on, does it have anything to do with you?" she asked coolly.
He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
"Or have you still not grasped the fact that we are getting a divorce?" she added.
"Getting a divorce? We aren't divorced yet!" Fairfax practically roared.
It was true. They were still legally married. Yet here she was, parading around with Herbert one minute and Kael the next.
"We will be," she stated flatly.
Faced with his explosive rage, Starla was a wall of pure apathy. Frankly, she couldn't understand his reaction at all. Wasn't he the one who had been desperate for a divorce? So why was he acting like a jealous, possessive husband now?
"Ha! Are you really in that much of a rush?" he spat.
Starla simply stared at him.
Fairfax's temper boiled over. "Herbert, Kael... what exactly is the dynamic here? Did Herbert sell you to Kael? Does he still want a piece for himself? Does Kael even know?"
"If you didn't have any dirty ulterior motives, why did you bend over backwards taking care of herโso much so that you abandoned your own home?"
Fairfax froze. The words 'abandoned your own home' stabbed him right in the chest.
Suddenly, an old conversation with his friend Caden Larson echoed in his mind.
*[Fairfax, I know Faraday's death hit you hard, and it's right to look after Brinley and the baby. But you can't throw away your own home just to take care of them, man.]*
Caden had told him that after Starla had picked a fight over Brinley for the third time.
Caden had been blunt: *[You're taking this 'brotherly duty' way too far. Forget Starlaโno woman on earth would tolerate this! When a man gets married, he has to balance things. And clearly, you've shoved your own wife completely off the scales.]*
Everyone had seen it. Because of Faraday's death, Fairfax had crossed every reasonable boundary to cater to Brinley and her unborn child.

"You're a failure as a husband and coward as a Man" This is what i want to say in Fairfax hahaha you dont deserved a wife if you cant protect her...
Hahaha This plot of story i hate about, choosing another girl instead of your own wife is something unreal, you didnt considered your wife feeling, you didnt even trust her and later on you will say sorry?? Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
