A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 674

Xenia's final question echoed with absolute despair. She felt as if they were trapped in an endless nightmare.

Fairfax pinched the bridge of his throbbing nose. Faced with his sister's hopeless pleading, he didn't know how to respond.

Resolve it...

How was he supposed to easily resolve things with Starla? The moment he learned his own mother had caused her mother's death, he knew one thing with absolute certainty: they were completely, irrevocably finished.

As for finding a resolution...

The only way to end this was to meet Starla's demand and hand over everything.

He barely remembered how he ended the call with Xenia. Afterward, he sat alone in his office, chain-smoking cigarette after cigarette.

End it?

Perhaps he really should just give in to her terms. After all, the entire Yelchin family owed her a massive debt.

Shortly after, Harley and Annika called, both unleashing a torrent of furious reprimands.

Harley's voice dripped with disappointment. "If I had known, I never would have handed the company over to you. I thought you were as capable as your brother, but clearly, I overestimated you. Letting everything fall apart over a woman! You're no son of the Yelchins!"

Pushed to his limit, Fairfax didn't care that he was speaking to his father. His response was razor-sharp. "I used to think you were the best father in the world. Now I realize you're nothing special either. Why are you so anxious? Did you really think I didn't know about the assets you've been hiding in Maxlandia?"

Silence fell over the line. Harley's breathing grew heavy and ragged.

The suffocating quiet was finally broken when Fairfax simply hung up.

Fairfax was already incredibly irritated. Did she honestly believe the family could still bully Starla into submission like they used to?

"She's not the soft, submissive wife you all thought she was," he warned. "She isn't weak anymore. If you refuse to let this go, feel free to resolve it your own way."

"What is that supposed to mean?" Annika demanded, catching the fatalistic undertone in his voice. "Are you seriously planning to hand the entire Yelchin Group over to her?" Her temper flared all over again.

Fairfax remained silent.

When he didn't respond, panic seeped into her voice. "Is that really what you're planning?"

"Is there any other way?" Fairfax asked hollowly.
