A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 734

"That's still so far!" Tanya complained. "It's, like, a ten-hour flight."

Starla laughed. "Then I'll come visit you."

"People always say that, but you're going to be busy once you get back." It was a classic scenario. People promise to visit and stay in touch, but distance always makes it difficult. Sometimes, a parting that seems temporary stretches into five or ten years, and some people never cross paths again.

"What about Herbert?" Tanya asked. "Is he going with you?"

"I don't know." And she genuinely didn't.

Thinking about him caused her spirits to dip again. Ultimately, her entire relationship with Fairfax was built on that initial, fated encounter with Herbert. Realizing that made Fairfax's actions feel even more despicable.

"What's wrong?" Tanya noticed the sudden shift. "Why do you look so upset the second I mention him?"

"My marriage to Fairfax... it actually happened because of Herbert."

"What do you mean?" Tanya was completely lost. How did her disastrous marriage have anything to do with Herbert?

"You were asking why he's been treating me so well lately, right?"

"Yeah. Once things blew up with you and your husband, Herbert started acting super protective. It'd make sense if you were officially divorced, but you're not." It was a mystery that had been bugging them both. "Wait, did you finally figure it out?"

Starla let out a heavy sigh. "I told you why I said yes when Fairfax proposed, right?"

"He was covered in mud and grime. I just..." Starla trailed off, but the implication was clear. The disheveled, filthy man she had pulled from danger looked absolutely nothing like the immaculate, commanding presence she knew today.

"Wow. What a total nightmare." Tanya shook her head in disbelief. "Herbert must want to murder Fairfax right now."

Starla remained quiet.

If she wanted to kill the man, she couldn't even imagine the depth of Herbert's fury.

"That is just repulsive. He tricked you into marriage, and now he won't even give you the decency of a clean break before skipping town? Who exactly is he trying to punish?"

Seriously, what kind of garbage human being was he?
