"No, I don't think it's him either."

"Are you thinking he's too busy dealing with his own mess?" Tanya challenged. "Don't forget, no matter how chaotic things got for him in the past, he always made time to drop everything for Brinley."

"Yes, he used to. But right now, Darleen and Xenia’s situation demands his attention more. Besides, he knows everything now. Do you really think he'd help the woman who murdered his older brother?"

If Fairfax hadn't learned the truth about Faraday, he might have kept shielding her. But everything had changed. Brinley's child belonged to Felix Fowler, and the two of them had orchestrated Faraday's death. With all those facts laid bare, what possible reason would he have to save her?

"Good point," Tanya conceded instantly. Realizing the truth about the murder made it impossible for Fairfax to be the benefactor. "So if it isn't Felix or Fairfax, who the hell is risking their neck to help her?"

Tanya was genuinely baffled. Helping Brinley right now meant directly offending Starla and Herbert. Even if Brinley still had a tiny bit of lingering influence, it wasn't worth incurring Herbert's wrath. Essentially, whoever was backing her was practically begging for a death sentence.

"Exactly. Who would step up for her right now?" Starla mused. Especially right after she and Herbert had left. Who had the nerve to go against him? Her brow knitted tightly.

"Well, anyway, I'm just passing the intel along," Tanya said, knowing she didn't have the power to do much else.

"Thanks," Starla replied softly.

For a tough girl like Tanya to sound so defeated, it meant either she and Darian had a massive fight, or his family had intervened.

Tanya didn't hide it. "Yeah. They found me today."

She had expected his elders to interfere eventually, just not this quickly.

"What did they say?" Starla asked.

"Told me to leave him, obviously. What else? And they gave me..."
