"Does Herbert know yet?" Fairfax narrowed his eyes.

"He probably does by now," Percy replied. "He's likely going to confront Ms. Lansbury about it."

"Ha! Let him confront her."

Did Herbert think making a scene would work? Was Starla the type of woman to be intimidated by a confrontation? When that woman dug her heels in, she wasn't afraid of anyone or anything.

Even when she didn't have the Hoggart family backing her, she was fearless. Now that she had their empire behind her, she was untouchable.

"Herbert, oh Herbert... you are rarely this foolish," Fairfax smiled mockingly.

If his only reason for protecting Brinley was because of *that woman*, then he really was being an absolute fool.

Of course, Fairfax knew Herbert wasn't an idiot. If he was doing this, there had to be another motive—and that motive was probably part of some scheme against Starla. If that was the case, Starla would never forgive him.

"The real concern right now is the Hoggart family," Percy noted cautiously.

"The Hoggart family? That's her biological brother and father. What's there to worry about?"

"Mr. Hoggart has always put a lot of trust in Mr. Farley," Percy explained. "And during our trip, didn't you notice something off?"

Percy had accompanied Fairfax to Yoran Country, and if Fairfax had picked up on certain underlying tensions, Percy definitely had too. The Hoggart family didn't seem entirely wholesome when it came to Starla.

Fairfax frowned.

Of course he had noticed it.

"That foolish woman!" She had thrown herself right into an even deadlier trap. He didn't know exactly what that trap entailed yet, but he prayed nothing terrible was waiting for her.
