A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 903

The call connected quickly.

Yardley's deep voice came through the receiver. "What is it?"

He was clearly in a foul mood.

"You're making me go to the Black Sea with Herbert?" Starla asked.

"Yes. I have to leave for Ravena Country soon, and going with him is the best arrangement for you."

"The best arrangement? What on earth is going through your head?"

The idea that he considered this a good plan was absolutely laughable to her.

"You need to let go of your grudge against him," Yardley said tiredly.

"My grudge?"

"Yes. You're holding a massive grudge against him because of Brinley Seabrook."

He shouldn't have brought up Brinley. The mere mention of the woman's name ignited Starla's fury. "You're damn right I'm furious about Brinley. And I'm furious with you, too."

"What is this? Are you two trying to make me pay for her death?"

When Brinley was alive, they had guarded her like she was royalty. And now that she was dead...

What exactly were they planning to do?

To this day, Starla couldn't fathom what Brinley meant to Yardley and Herbert. She understood Fairfax's motivesโ€”she was his brother's widow, so naturally he felt obligated to protect her. But why were Yardley and Herbert so deeply invested?

The fact that Herbert dared to order his men to use force against her inside the Hoggart estate proved that Yardley had authorized it. Or, at the very least, he hadn't stopped it...

But hearing it confirmed from her brother's own mouth still felt like a punch to the gut. It was suffocating. It physically hurt.

"Starla, this isn't the time to let your personal feelings dictate your actions. You need to stay with Herbert."

"Ha! Personal feelings? You blindly trust him, you stand by while he does things that constantly hurt me, and I'm not even allowed to be upset about it?"
