Her marriage to Fairfax, followed by her disastrous engagement to Herbert, had turned her entire existence into a walking punchline.
She refused to let her life become an even bigger joke.
So... regardless of the reasons behind Fairfax's death, she was not going to play the weeping widow.
After surviving so much betrayal, she only had one priority left: loving herself.
She only needed to care about herself. Everyone else was entirely secondary. Because pouring your heart into people only to discover they were never worth it was enough to drive a person insane.
Back in Yoran Country, she had been pushed right to the edge of madness. The world had treated her cruelly enough; she wasn't about to help them tear her down.
"Do you think I'm cold-blooded?" Starla offered a bitter smile when Romy stayed quiet.
Romy shook her head. "No. I think he broke you so completely that you're terrified of looking like a fool if you shed a tear for him."
Despite her youth, Romy had an unnerving ability to read people. She knew exactly why Starla's eyes were dry. It wasn't a lack of grief; it was self-preservation. She couldn't stomach the thought of her life becoming another pathetic tragedy.
"Give me Amos's number," Starla requested, eager to drop the subject of Fairfax.
He was dead. She just wanted his memory to fade into the background as quickly as possible. Letting go was the only way to move forward.
"You want to call the boss?" Romy frowned. "He honestly doesn't have the time to deal with you right now. If you need something, just tell me."
Romy was confident she could handle any reasonable request Starla had. But Starla clearly had no intention of sharing her plans, merely giving Romy a flat look.
"Look, whatever you're thinking, do not get it in your head to go back to Yoran Country," Romy warned sternly. "If you go back this time, not even a miracle could save you."
She had slipped out of their grasp twice. If she returned, Yardley and Herbert would lock her in a cage.
"Mr. Farley is completely unhinged right now. The wedding is in ashes!"
At the mention of the wedding, Starla's expression darkened into a scowl.

"You're a failure as a husband and coward as a Man" This is what i want to say in Fairfax hahaha you dont deserved a wife if you cant protect her...
Hahaha This plot of story i hate about, choosing another girl instead of your own wife is something unreal, you didnt considered your wife feeling, you didnt even trust her and later on you will say sorry?? Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
