A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 966

"Don't look at me like that," Darian said defensively. "My relationship with her really isn't what you think."

To prove his point, he answered the call right in front of Tanya! He clearly believed that since his conscience was clean, he had nothing to hide. Answering the phone openly was his way of demonstrating his absolute innocence.

He actually picked it up. "Yulisa!"

Watching him, Tanya honestly didn't know what to say.

From the speaker, Yulisa's overly sweet, whining voice filtered through. "Darian, you have to come pick me up right now."

Darian stiffened. Since when did she talk like that? Hearing that tone, his heart gave a sudden lurch, and the unwavering confidence he had displayed just seconds ago faltered.

"What are you up to?" his tone immediately hardened. He never felt the need to put up a front with Yulisa; he treated her just like one of his buddies.

"I... someone drugged my drink," Yulisa stammered.

Darian went dead silent.

Tanya stared at him, equally speechless.

"I can't trust anyone right now," Yulisa rushed on, her voice sounding genuinely distressed. "Please hurry to the banquet and get me out of here. I'm hiding in the lounge."

Darian knew she was attending an event tonight. Hearing that she had been drugged made the veins in his temples throb furiously!

"Don't panic. I'm on my way!" He hung up the phone.

Darian looked at Tanya, and Tanya looked right back at him. The silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating. Unable to withstand her piercing gaze any longer, Darian took a deep breath. "I have to go."

"You have to go? She got drugged, and you're the one going? What exactly are you planning to do?" Tanya mocked, her sarcastic tone making Darian's heart pound erratically.

"Tanya, she's a woman. Do you have any idea what could happen to her?"

In a situation like this, the danger was astronomical. He couldn't fathom how Tanya could be so completely devoid of empathy at a time like this.

"Is there really a need to gloat?" Tanya shot back.

"No, I'm just asking! I feel really sick right now."

"Then call him yourself. Why are you bothering me? Yulisa, save your pathetic little act. I'm not an idiot; I know exactly what kind of show you're putting on!"

"You're misunderstanding me. I was just asking because I tried calling him and he didn't answer."

Tanya clenched her jaw, wishing she could reach through the phone and strangle the woman. Even though she had zero interest in keeping Darian anymore, Yulisa's sheer audacity was infuriating.

"Tanya, as one woman to another, I swear I wouldn't have called him if I had any other choice," Yulisa said, her voice dripping with manufactured helplessness.

"Ha!" Tanya scoffed.

She was trying to provoke her while carefully ensuring she left no evidence of her malice behind. She had to admit, Yulisa was smart... just as cunning and manipulative as Brinley!
