And now, his estranged sister was casually offering up the exact coordinates. It felt too good to be true.
Then, he remembered Amos was launching his strike tonight.
Yardley took a deep breath. "You're doing this to avenge Fairfax, aren't you? You're coordinating your attack with Amos."
He thought he had figured out her master plan. She was luring Herbert away, and now she was trying to lure him away, leaving Licht entirely defenseless. Did she think they were idiots?
"A lot of powerful people want that map," Starla countered, completely unfazed by his accusations. "You can either go fetch that book for me, or I can find someone else who will."
Yardley gritted his teeth.
"I'm sure if I put the word out, I'll have a line of volunteers around the block." The moment the map's location became public knowledge, the criminal underworld would descend into absolute chaos.
"Starla!" Yardley barked. "Do you have any idea what kind of bloodbath you'll start if you leak that intel? Just the fallout in Yoran Country alone will be more than you can handle!" And if that happened, Yardley's chances of quietly retrieving it from Licht's estate would evaporate.
"You're lying. The intel has to be fake," he sneered, trying to call her bluff.
"Do you really want to gamble on that?" she challenged.
Even if it was a lie, if she broadcasted it, someone would definitely break into Licht's compound to verify it. What if it was real? What if someone else got to it first?
Yardley's breathing grew ragged. "You little brat, do you have any idea what you're doing right now?!"
"I told you," he said defensively, "I never intended to actually give you to him." He wasn't completely devoid of a soul; she was his flesh and blood.
"Only when it wasn't absolutely necessary," she retorted. "But push comes to shove, you'd hand me over in a heartbeat. As long as you 'guaranteed my safety,' right?"
The word 'safety' sounded like a filthy curse coming from her lips.
Yardley felt like he was losing his mind. Every logical argument he tried to make, she expertly twisted into proof of his betrayal.
"At least until I have that map in my hands, Licht cannotโ"
"Fine. I'll get someone else to do it," she interrupted abruptly. Her patience had evaporated.

"You're a failure as a husband and coward as a Man" This is what i want to say in Fairfax hahaha you dont deserved a wife if you cant protect her...
Hahaha This plot of story i hate about, choosing another girl instead of your own wife is something unreal, you didnt considered your wife feeling, you didnt even trust her and later on you will say sorry?? Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
