Iris first made a lap around the main hall, then checked the corridors.
Still no sign of Summer.
Finally, she headed to the restroom.
Inside, Iris stood before the mirror, touching up her makeup.
Her red lips were vibrant, stunningly beautiful. Even she had to admit that she was superior to Summer in every way.
"So where is that bitch hiding?"
If she didn't pay Summer back, with interest, for last time's humiliation, she'd change her name. Iris swore this to herself.
If she couldn't find Summer at the gala, she'd have Vincent hunt her down. That woman needed to be taught a lesson.
In the VIP lounge.
Janina was helping Summer adjust the hem of her dress.
Alan had just put the finishing touches on her look. The woman before him was completely transformed.
Her pale complexion was hidden beneath flawless makeup.
A deep emerald green gown clung to her slender waist, and even the weariness from her long illness now seemed like a fragile, heart-wrenching beauty.
"Perfect! Alan, thank you so much," Janina exclaimed, clapping her hands. "Summer, you have to stay this beautiful forever."
This was the campus queen she remembered, the one who had been breathtakingly beautiful.
Alan accepted the praise with a flick of his wrist.
"But of course. Nothing that passes through my hands is anything less than beautiful. But, my sweet Summer, you need to put on some weight. I saw your old photos, you were an absolute goddess. You haven't been taking care of yourself. Look at you now... sigh, I'm getting thirsty just talking about it."
Alan casually picked up a glass of water from a nearby table and took a few sips.
Summer stared at her reflection in the mirror, and for a moment, she felt as if she had been transported back to the time before her illness.
This was who she really was.
"She's beautiful."
"Thank you, Mr. Alan, for helping me feel like my old self again. I'll make sure to eat well and gain some weight."
Summer smiled, a genuine, heartfelt smile.
Alan waved his hand with a dramatic flair. "Oh, please, none of this 'Mr.' business. Just call me Alan. Any friend of Nina's is a friend of mine. Now, ladies, shall we?"
Janina couldn't help but chuckle. The three of them were about to head to the ballroom.
She refused to believe that the woman standing a few feet away, looking like a goddess in her long gown, was Summer.
But it was her.
Seeing this radiant, impossibly beautiful woman, a fire of jealousy ignited in Iris's heart.
She had always been jealous. Jealous that Summer had a man as wonderful as Vincent.
Jealous that people called her the "campus queen" and a "goddess."
Jealous that she was not only beautiful but also talented.
Jealous that she outshone her in every way.
That's why she had relentlessly tried to frame her, to ruin her reputation.
To make everyone hate her, abandon her, so that even in death, she would be nothing but a piece of rotten flesh.
"That bitch, why isn't she dead yet? Is she planning to come back and try to steal Vincent from me?"
Iris's gaze shifted to the man standing next to Summer.
Summer had just come out of the room with him.
